Biographical history
John Joseph Lipinski was born in Calgary on August 7, 1924 to Franciszek (Frank) Lipinski and Eufrozynia (Franciszka/Frances) Lipinska. He grew up in Gartly, Alberta (near Drumheller), and graduated from the Drumheller Composite High School. He graduated from the University of Alberta in 1944 with a Bachelor of Science degree, followed by a Medical Degree in 1948. He served as an intern at Edmonton General Hospital in 1948 while completing his medical degree, and maintained an affiliation there once opening a private practice in Edmonton.
In 1949 he married Mary Margaret Daly, also from the Drumheller area. They lived in Edmonton, and had three children: Thomas Frank, John Kenneth, and Margaret Anne. John practiced as a physician and surgeon from 1949 to 1969 out of his office on 118th Avenue in Edmonton. In 1969, he was appointed medical director of the Edmonton General Hospital at 11111 Jasper Avenue. He was active with the Alberta Medical Association, and was a founding member of the Edmonton Medico-Legal Society.
John retired as vice-president of medical services at the Edmonton General Hospital in 1985. During his retirement, he and Mary spent many winters in Mesa, Arizona. John passed away on July 3, 2020 at the age of 95.
