Administrative history
The Department of Microbiology was formed in 1957 as a division in the Department of Bacteriology. in the Faculty of Medicine. In 1963, it became its own department in the Faculty of Science. In 1994, the Departments of Botany, Entomology, Genetics, Microbiology and Zoology merged to form the Department of Biological Sciences.
Chairs: 1962-1964 Gordon E. Myers; 1964-1966 James N. Campbell (Acting Chair); 1966-1969 Wilfred E. Razzell; 1969-1989 Donald W.S. Westlake; 1989-1994 William Paranchych.
