Biographical history
Classicist, Author, 1895-1979. Dr. Hardy joined the University's Classics Department as a lecturer in 1920, received his full professorship in 1922, was named head of the Department in 1938 and retired in 1964. Author of novels, historic, and scholarly works, Dr. Hardy played an active role in Canadian literature, serving three times as president of the Canadian Authors' Association. Dr. Hardy was also a well-known hockey executive, serving for seven years as the president of the International Ice Hockey Federation and the Alberta and Canadian Amateur Hockey Associations.

Scope and content
Accession consists of the personal and professional papers of W. G. Hardy, including the notes, drafts and manuscripts of Hardy's novels and non-fiction works, as well as drafts and manuscripts of short stories, radio talks and speeches; correspondence with publishers and agents; correspondence and materials relating to Hardy's activities in the Canadian Author's Association and the Canadian and International Amateur Hockey Associations. There is also a collection of his student notebooks and University of Alberta lecture notes.
