    Scope and content

Fiction. Contemporary mystery novel published in 1989.

"You are a Hollywood agent. Most of the actors you represent are unemployed. Your bank balance is low, and your new secretary is an illegal alien. A client you can barely remember has been bizarrely murdered. You have had better days. Then your client's lover makes you an offer: investigate the murder, for a large check. What do you do? If you're Jake Weissman, out of condition and no hero, you refuse. Absolutely.

But money talks, pressure mounts, and a reluctant Jake sets off on a trail that leads him to a retired stuntman with dreams of playing Shakespeare, an aging M-G-M bathing beauty, two weird teenage stagehands, and an imperious guitar-playing feminist. In true theatrical fashion, egos clash, bodies appear, complications ensue, and Jake unravels a tangled skein indeed."
