3.2 Images of British Columbia ([1890] - 1895)

Subseries contains photographs and a lithograph of British Columbia and the Rocky Mountains, though locations of photographs are largely unidentified . 3.3 Journey from Fort Macleod to Mexico City (1899 - 1900)

Subseries consists of photographs and a typewritten passage related to Pocock's journey from Fort Macleod, AB, to Mexico City. He set forth from Fort MacLeod on 28 June 1899 and arrived in Mexico City 21 January 1900. Photographs were likely collected by Pocock during his travels. Subseries is arranged chronologically according to order of location visited.

3.4 Journey with Randle Cecil (1913)

Subseries documents the journey of Pocock and Randle Cecil. Randle Cecil (1889 - 1917) was son of Lord Rupert Ernest William Gascoyne-Cecil, Bishop of Exeter, and in early 1913 Lord Gascoyne-Cecil asked Pocock to act as a guide and chaperon to Randle during an exploration of the Pacific North-West. They traveled mostly by horseback from Calgary, AB, to Red Bluff, CA, over the later half of 1913. Subseries contains photographs and postcards of the locations they visited, and perhaps intended to visit, as well as some people they met (mostly unidentified). It is arranged chronologically into three files: Images from unknown locations, Images from Alberta and British Columbia, and Images from Washington to California.

3.5 Images of the Canadian Prairies [ca. 1913]

Subseries consists of photographs of unidentified people and places on the Canadian Prairies. It is unclear when these photographs were taken but the majority may have been created around the time of Pocock and Cecil's 1913 journey as they were crossing the Canada by train from New York to Calgary. One photograph was likely taken around 1890 as the style of it matches those in Pocock's 1890 scrapbook. Subseries is arranged according the order that photographs were processed.

3.6 Journey to Spitzbergen (1921)

Subseries consists of photographs from Pocock's expedition with Oxford University to Spitzbergen, an island in northern Norway. This expedition took place in 1921 and is documented in Pocock's 1921 diaries. Subseries is arranged according to the order that photographs were processed.

Subseries consists of a photograph and negatives that are likely of Pocock as a pensioner during his residence at Charterhouse in London, sometime around 1931. Subseries is arranged according to the order that records were processed.

3.9 Images likely from Calgary Stampede [193-?]

Subseries consists of photographs of Indigenous people, likely from the Nakoda (Stoney) or Niitsitapi/ Siksikaitsitapi (Blackfoot) Nations, and settlers taking part in parades and cultural exhibitions. Seems to be the Calgary Stampede though the year is unknown. Likely taken during Pocock's pensioner years in the 1930s. Subseries is arranged according to the order that photographs were processed.

An envelope containing 5 photographic negatives of images used in Pocock's book Chorus to Adventuresr. A mounted photograph of a returning [Manitoban?] soldier dressed in a South African [Boer] War uniform and slouch hat. The soldier is also wearing a bandolier and holding a rifle. The medal pinned to the soldier's chest closely resembles and is possibly the Queen's South Africa Medal, the campaign medal awarded to those who served in the Boer War.

PE001414 -"Sorting letters for service Comrades overseas;" Ottawa (Ont.), 1944

WWII-era photograph of Private Doris L. Colwell of Calgary (Alta.) working at the Canadian Army Base Post Office in Ottawa (Ont.), for use with the article titled "C.W.A.C. Christmas Mail" published in Canadian Press on Tuesday October 31, 1944. Attached caption reads "Pte. Colwell has been in the Canadian Women's Army Corps for almost a year and has been sorting letters for about six months - a job that requires nimble fingers and a good memory, because every pigeon hole in front of her represents a different unit of the Canadian Army overseas, and she is sorting letters by Military Units."

PE001419 - "Arthur Thibaudeau, Globe Trotter;" Winnipeg (Man.), 1920

A card featuring information and a photographic print of Arthur Thibaudeau, a 25 year old French-Canadian globe trotter and potential con artist, who claimed to be walking around the world in answer to the challenge of the Revel Athletic Association of Paris, France (a fictional organization). The card claims he had walked more than 52,000 miles on foot and had 24,000 miles left to win the "World's Championship" and the $100,000 prize. Sales of these cards were his "only means of subsistance" and provided purchasers with the rules of the competition.

PE001422 - Loose photograph album depicting rural life; Saskatchewan, c. 1926-1928

A loose collection of photographs and photographic postcards. Predominant subjects include horses, farming equipment and activities, children, and vehicles. One photograph shows some sort of canoeing event, and another is stamped "Genuine Sparkleton Prints, Regina Photo Supply Ltd" and dated September 28, 1926. Several photographs have been mounted onto black card album pages and then cut-out, retaining pieces of other photographs on the verso. Legible captions include "myself harvesting, not very clear," "Bill at Brighton," and "Herbert + the mare + colt. This is Kate the mare and colt 12 days old and roses, mother as well was taken at bounty fair fancy this mare having one colt."

A collection of photographs of a family living in Calgary, Alberta from 1911-1916. Mostly portraits and group shots, adults and children, inside and in front of houses, and rural locations. Notes on inside of both covers read "David A. Riddell, 1912." Several shots of Ukranian settlers in traditional dress are incorrectly captioned as "Russian."

PE002162 - Photographs of travel and collective settlements in Alberta and B.C.; [1920s?]

A coverless album of photographs primarily of rural and farming activities. It appears to follow Mr. Scobie, Mr. McArton, Mr. Siemens, Mr. Webb, and Mr. Macalister on a trip to various settler communites in B.C. and Alberta. Numerous shots of livestock, mostly pigs, cows, and horses. Other subjects include trains, tractors, a rodeo in Doe River, B.C., various wood frame buildings, and group portraits.

PE002163 - Lorne Louis Anderson archive; 1945-1961

The personal papers of Lorne Louis Anderson Esq., a legal surveyor and engineer from Ontario. He served with the Royal Canadian Artillery during World War II where he began training as a surveyor, and later completed a degree in civil engineering from the University of Toronto. In 1950 he was "engaged in subdivision surveys on Indian Reserves in Saskatchewan and Alberta" and assisted with "mineral claim surveys in Yukon Territory." Items include correspondence, a photograph, lecture notes, an enduring power of attorney, a preliminary exam for land surveyors, certifications and membership cards, maps, a resume, promotion and reassignment notifications, and other business documents, booklets, articles, and technical information relating to the field of legal surveying.

PE002164 - "Untangling the Tree: The Engelhardt Family" genealogy book; Lloydminster (Sask.), [c. 2000]

The genealogical research of Linda Nykolaychuk (née Measner) from Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, on the history of the Engelhardt family (her mother's side) back to 1824. Additional correspondence is included providing corrections and updates, presumably submitted by family members. There are also two copies of a photograph of a group of men standing in front of a steam engine, one in colour and one in very low resolution b&w.

PE002167 - "The Jubilee Reunion of Alumnae of the Saskatoon City Hospital School of Nursing" programme and newspaper clipping; 1961

A program for a banquet held for graduates of the Saskatoon City Hospital School of Nursing, dated May 8, 1961. Includes menu, schedule, and thank you note. Laid-in is a newspaper article on the event from the "Saskatoon Star-Pheonix" dated Tuesday, May 9, 1961, that includes two photographs of attendees, a description of the centerpieces, and a summary of the speech delivered by Mayor S. L. Buckwold. On the verso is an article citing recommendations from the Dominion Experimental Farm at Indian Head on which fruits will be best to grow that year.

A menu and toast list for the first annual banquet held by United College in Winnipeg, Manitoba at "The Fort Garry" campus, dated February 11, 1914. The toast list includes musical numbers and a "Presentation of Prizes." Also included are photographs of various college buildings, the track and football teams, and several cartoons. Stamp in upper right corner of front cover reads "T. W. B. Hinch" and there is a list of signatures on the back cover.

At the center and back of the stage men in suits are sitting or standing behind a podium that says "Mobile," towards the front and to the sides of the stage men in striped suits are sitting on chairs holding various musical instruments, and there are two people sitting cross-legged in the center of the stage. Visible above the stage is a rolled up theatre curtain containing advertising for local businesses, including the Grenfell Sun newspaper. Caption under photograph reads "Mobile Minstrels. 1896"

Most photographs are captioned with the names of the subjects and prominently feature members of the Johnson and Arnason families. Common themes include portraits of hockey teams, primarily "The Lake Winnipeg Champions," and a flood in the spring of 1945.

A collage of photographs of the Glasgow House, the first department store in Regina, Saskatchewan, interior and exterior, and its employees. Owner and proprietor Richard Henry Williams was also a lumber merchant and the mayor of Regina from 1891-1892 and from 1909-1910.

A photograph from a stop on the Royal Tour of Canada undertaken by the Prince of Wales, who would later become King Edward VIII. Features a stage with a rug containing four seated ladies and one priest, nine standing gentlemen, one in military uniform and one in the center reading from a sheet of paper. Some of the crowd is just visible on the sides, and a row of cars are parked in the background.

A WWI-era photograph of Private Hugh Edward Brownlee in uniform, former member of the Northwest Mounted Police in Macleod, Alberta and Regina, Saskatchewan. Volunteered for service in 1914, assigned to the Royal Winnipeg Rifles, shipped out with the 1st Contingent. Killed in France, November, 1916, either by sniper or minenwerfer (mortar shell).

PE002207 - "Canoe Trip Diary;" Ottawa (Ont.), 1955

A reprinting, with pictures, of a journal kept by a member of a group of six "city folk" who took a canoe trip in Northern Saskatchewan from July 23 to August 13 [1955]. Author Denis Coolican was the President of the Canadian Bank Note Company. Their route is marked out on a large map that is attached to and unfolds from inside of the back cover.

A pair of sepia toned photographs of coal miners and mining equipment around Galt Mines. The North Western Coal and Navigation Company, formed by Sir Alexander Tilloch Galt, operated in the area of what is now Lethbridge, Alberta. Captioned photo reads "Job of Coal Chutes and part of Lethbridge."

B&W studio portrait on a man reclining on a sofa bench beside a patterned cushion. The man is wearing a suit, a polka dot neckerchief, and a pocket watch chain can be seen under his suit jacket. The subject is wearing a small maple leaf pin on his lapel which resembles a military badge common in the 1910s, although the photograph is not clear enough to be certain. The photograph may have been taken by Edgar C. Rossie, a well-known photographer in Regina in the early 1900s.
