It contains diverse representations and interpretations of Beatrix Potter's 1902 book The Tale of Peter Rabbit and its sequels. It contains fictional and non-fiction books in a variety of formats relating to Beatrix Potter and her character Peter Rabbit, a collection of ephemeral materials, video adaptations on DVD and VHS, electronic games and other computer software, audiobooks on cassette tape, and various collectibles. It contains books relating to Lewis Carroll's 1865 novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and its sequel Through the Looking Glass. It contains various versions and editions of those books, such as picture books, children's books, and abridged versions; books written by other authors set in the same world and relating to the story of Alice, non-fiction books discussing Lewis Carroll and his works, and a catalogue of various versions of the original Alice's Adventures in Wonderland story.

This series consists of the personal files of Dr. Margaret Mackey that were donated to the University of Alberta Libraries. It contains newspaper articles, various editorials on subjects relating to literature (specifically children's literature), catalogues, correspondences, teaching materials, information on business, mainly relating to publishers Pearson P.L.C., reference searches, receipts and inter-library loan requests, reviews, materials relating to conferences and the University of Alberta, and two file folders that contain pieces relating to the aforementioned series. This series also contains three miscellaneous items that do not fit in any of the sub-series. These are an instructional manual for a Barbie Doll, an Easter themed envelope, and a plastic bag from The Welsh Lovespoon Store. Series consists of articles by and about the Cameroon writer Mongo Beti. Professor Arnold obtained much of this material via Inter Library Loan and many of the articles are in French. Material in this series was compiled for his unpublished bibliography (see Series 7). An abbreviated version of the bibliography was published as an appendix (p. 425-444) to Stephen H. Arnold, ed. Some of these slides have apparently come from commercial sources. Most of this material was collected by Andre Nitecki to support his teaching and research activities; Arnold collected some of it.

Series consists of unpublished Cameroon Anglophone literature, collected by or sent to Arnold. A few items appear to be from the Guinness Literary Contest (Series 1). Some of the files include correspondence with the authors.

General Audience

The 'General Audience' subcategories represent the largest portion of the collection. They were created to provide information to the general public and as such are diverse in form and depth of coverage.

There are various sets of editions or versions of the same brochure or booklet which provide insights into the evolution of popular myths and medical misconceptions, these items also provide examples of how language used to describe HIV /AIDS changed as the medical community gained more detailed understanding of the mechanism of the virus.

Typical titles for the items include: "What you should know" "Get the Facts!" and "How to Not get AIDS." Atypical and more provocative titles include: "AIDS Kills Women Men and Babies" and "What you think you know about AIDS could be dead wrong."

Many of the comic books and graphic brochures feature "superheroes" with names like 'King Kondom' and 'Grand Master Blaster.'

The 'Specific Audience' subcategories are items that were created to address the information needs of specific group, for example 'Caregivers' includes, friends, and parents, but does not include counsellors or health care professionals.

Part of Hans Gruen Mycology Collection

Series consists of reprints and clippings of works by Kenneth Vivian Thimann, spanning approximately sixty years. Thimann (1904-1997) is considered the foremost 20th-century scholar of plant physiology, concentrating primarily, but not solely, on the chemistry, biochemistry, and physiology of auxins. Among other accomplishments, he was a Harvard instructor for thirty years, and served as the Provost and Professor of Biology at the University of California (Santa Cruz campus) for nearly thirty additional years.

Works are arranged by date and by title of the journals or primary works that Thimann's articles were reprinted or clipped from.

Country Files

Series consists of notes, newspaper clippings, and printed ephemera about various African countries. Topics covered include history, culture, and politics. It is probable that some of this material was collected by Nitecki to support his teaching and research activities.

Audio Recordings

Series consists of interviews with African authors (famous and unknown), scientists, and women of distinction. They represent the entire interviewing "oveure" of Lee Nichols of the Voice of America from the 1960's to the 1990's. The 8" tapes were edited for broadcast to Africa. They exist in three other libraries in the world. The 11" tapes are raw interviews (unedited) and no other copies exist anywhere. There are also some interviews with Caribbean authors and related music performances.
