The letter was written by Fred W. Longstaff, the Secretary-Manager of the Saskatchewan Turkey Producers Marketing Board. The contents of the letter outline a proposal put forth by the Saskatchewan boards to install a regional coordinator to optimize support and partnership between the two provinces. The Saskatchewan board stated they believed Ed. Pratt would be a successful candidate for the position and they requested an answer from the Manitoba marketing boards to discuss the matter further.

The representatives present at the meeting came from British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan. Donald J. McFadden was present as one of the representatives from Manitoba. The meeting was held in Regina, Saskatchewan. The meeting minutes list the date, and the names of people present for the meeting, and provide details about the topics discussed. Also included are a report from the Saskatchewan Turkey Producers’ Marketing Board written by F.W. Longstaff, a report from the British Columbia Turkey Marketing Board written by E. Pratt, and a report from the Manitoba Turkey Producers’ Marketing Board written by J.P. Tanchak. The Alberta report was delivered verbally and there is no written copy.

A meteorological chart published by The Western Producer following the 2009-2010 crop year, using information from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. The map shows the levels of precipitation across Western Canada during the 2009-2010 crop year expressed as a percentile using a colour-coded scale going from "Record Wet" to "Record Dry".

Nearly all of Manitoba and Saskatchewan, including the cities of Winnipeg, Brandon, Regina, Saskatoon, and Prince Albert and surrounding areas, show above-average to record-high levels of precipitation, while much of the eastern and southern portions of Alberta, including the cities of Medicine Hat and Lethbridge and surrounding areas, show average to above-average levels of precipitation.

However, the western and northern portions of Alberta and northern portions of British Columbia, including the cities of Calgary, Edmonton, Grande Prairie, and Dawson Creek and surrounding areas, largely show below-average to record-low levels of precipitation.

In the top right corner of each odd-numbered page, dimensions for the displayed items are listed. The furniture items depicted include shelves, stools, chairs, various sizes of tables, mirrors, and accessories. Near the end of the catalogue, there is a page devoted to listing all the designers. The forms fold into envelope shapes with prepaid postage of six (6) cents, a predetermined address for Brathwaites Limited, and several blank lines in the top left corner for a return address.

The final page of the pamphlet is a permit book application worksheet that has been filled out by Donald J. McFadden. A pamphlet titled “War on Weeds” by H.E. Wood, Chairman of the Manitoba Weeds Commission. The pamphlet was reprinted by C-I-L Oval in April 1951. The pamphlet was distributed by the Canadian Industries Limited Agricultural Chemicals Division. The pamphlet provides information about weed control for field crops and lists several kinds of weeds and methods for control. The pamphlet also provides information about the effects of weeds on animals and humans.

A pamphlet titled “The Budding and Grafting of Fruit Trees” described and illustrated by D.S. Blair, Arthur Kellett, and W.L. Kerr from the Division of Horticulture, and M.B. Davis, a Dominion Horticulturist. The pamphlet was published by the Canada Department of Agriculture in Ottawa, Ontario in 1944. The pamphlet provides information about budding and grafting fruit trees and covers techniques for root grafting, frameworking, bridge grafting, inarching, and cleft grafting, among others. Each technique is accompanied by several captioned photographs. The name D.J. McFadden is handwritten in the top right corner.

A newsletter titled “Easy Breathing” from the Manitoba Lung Association, a Division of the Sanatorium Board of Manitoba, in March 1984. The newsletter is marked as Volume 11, Number 1. On the cover page of the newsletter is a diagram of the lungs and all the different areas are labelled. The newsletter provides information about bronchitis and pneumonia, has a profile on Dr. C.B. Schoemperlen, a bronchoscopy pioneer, and outlines why smoking is detrimental to lung health. On the back page of the newsletter, there is a mailing address sticker addressed to Mrs Margaret McFadden in Rivers, Manitoba.

A collection of correspondence, licences and licencing documents, newsletters and bulletins, and other related documents regarding the Manitoba Chicken Broiler Producers' Marketing Board, largely addressed to Donald McFadden or to chicken broiler producers generally. The contents of the folder are dated from 8 May 1968 to 16 August 1994, with the bulk of the documents being dated from 1986-1993.

Of note are a preliminary voters' list (which includes Donald McFadden) to vote on the legislation regarding Manitoba Chicken Broiler Marketing Plan; Manitoba Chicken Broiler Producers' Marketing Board Permits in Donald McFadden's name for the years 1971-1973; Manitoba Chicken Broiler Producers' Marketing Board "Certificates of Production Premises" for the years 1978, 1983, 1985, and 1988-1990; over 100 "Price Bulletins", beginning with Price Bulletin No. 2 and ending with Price Bulletin No. 177, produced by the Manitoba Chicken Broiler Producers' Marketing Board from 1969-1992 [note that Price Bulletins Nos. 1; 5; 12-14; 17-33; 38-42; 44-61; 63; 72; 79; 81; 93; 97; 100; 106; 125; 164 are not present]; a selection of meeting minutes and proceedings for Chicken Broiler Producers' Marketing Board and other chicken industry board meetings including the First Annual Chicken Broiler Producers' Board Meeting in 1970; a "Summary Report Regarding 1990 Survey of Manitoba Chicken Broiler Producers"; a list of Manitoba Chicken Producer Board Directors (Elected 10 March 1992); and a letter dated 16 August 1994, regarding the issuance of a refund cheque to Donald McFadden for an overpayment made in 1991.

Additionally contains one printed booklet titled "Recommended code of practice for handling chickens from hatchery to slaughterhouse" published by Agriculture Canada in 1983, regarding the adoption of a humane code of practice when handling and transporting chicks and chickens in hatcheries, on chicken farms, and at processing plants. The booklet was produced by the Canadian Federation of Humane Societies in cooperation with representatives from the poultry and egg industries, as well as agricultural and veterinary organizations, university faculties and government branches, and animal welfare groups. The code has no legal implications and cannot be used to prosecute unsafe or inhumane practices.

Manitoba Chicken Broiler Producers' Marketing Board

A Far Lease Share of Crop agreement legal document between Chester James McFadden, of the Municipality of Daly, in Manitoba, Retired Farmer and James Henry Ashton, of the Municipality of Daly, in Manitoba. The agreement states that Chester McFadden will lease “the most easterly one hundred acres of the South east Quarter of Section Eighteen (18) in Township Twelve (12) and Range Twenty West of the Principal Meridian in Manitoba being bounded on the west side of the demised premises herein by a three strand barbed wire line fence.” Various sections of the agreement were initialed and the document was signed by both parties on July 19, 1966. The witness for the signing was Sydney Perlmutter, a Barrister-at-Law from Rivers, Manitoba.
