Fiction. A contemporary gay novel published shortly before the author's death from AIDS-related complications on 6 September 1994.

"In this glitteringly stylish, haunting novel, Christopher Coe evokes both the charmed era of the 1970s and early 80s - when it seemed possible for men to love each other without demands and with Dionysian abandon - and the years of loss that followed. Through the story of Timothy and Jasper's twenty-year relationship, Coe creates an inexpressibly moving portrait of people living on the razor's edge of desire, from the bathhouses of San Francisco to the waterfronts of New York and the streets of Paris, and offers a rapturous, bittersweet homage to those who now face death for having lived so exuberantly in such times."

Fiction. A contemporary gay novel published in 1986.

"Cherry Grove, situated along the magnificent beach of Fire Island, is the setting for this unusually poignant and joyful love story. The Old Man, a world-famous novelist, young at heart, lives with Joe, some thirty years younger, sleek and tan. Surrounded by steady friends and finding fulfillment in each other, the Old Man and Joseph are deeply content to enjoy another summer until life deals them one of its unexpected hands. A hauntingly beautiful love story, Joseph and the Old Man is reminiscent of Andrew Holleran's Dancer from the Dance and Edmund White's Nocturnes for the King of Naples."
