Advertising brochure for the Macdonald Hotel in Edmonton, Alberta. The brochure contains promotional text describing the hotel and available accommodations and amenities within, and also features several photographs of the hotel interior.

A set of four holiday greeting cards and an included envelope. Each card has a different B&W photograph of a location in Edmonton, Alberta on the front. The photographs depict a dog train, the Grand Trunk Railway Hotel, and two shots of Jasper Avenue. Each card also has a small gold embossed circular design on the front with a holiday message. Two second-place blue ribbons that were awarded to Mrs W.R. Gibson from the Calgary Horticultural Society. One ribbon was awarded for a Scabiosa plant and is listed as class number 73 and exhibit 5. The other ribbon was awarded for a Double Blue plant and is listed as class number 111 and exhibit 2. The Double Blue ribbon is listed as a Constance Hanson exhibit and on the back of the paper tag is stapled a handwritten note with potting instructions. The paper tags include advertising for garden supplies from Vigoro.

Informational and promotional brochure, issued by Imperial Oil, which details the process of oil refining, as well as research efforts by Imperial Oil, and the efficiency of Imperial Oil’s Canadian refineries. When folded out, the reverse side of the brochure displays a flow chart illustration of the refining process, showing the process from the wellhead to the end consumer.

A 2019 brochure advertising Nest8, a development of urban townhomes by 548796 Architecture under Ocheller’s Limited Edition Collection in the Blatchford neighbourhood in Edmonton, Alberta. The brochure includes information about the layout and construction of the townhomes, notable aspects of the location, and bird’s eye view drawings of each townhome layout. There is also an included paper insert listing general specifications and upgrades that are available for each townhome.

A promissory notebook for the Co-operative Lumber and Coal Co. in Leavings, Alberta. The pages are all identical with blank spaces to fill in information such as the borrower, the date, the amount of money borrowed, and when the sum should be repaid. The notebook pages also indicate that an interest of 8% will be charged per annum until the due date, or 10% if the payment goes past the due date.

On the back of the map are lists of each stop on each transit line, the time of their first bus or shuttle, and then time estimates for the remainder of the day. The back of the map also includes several colour photographs of parks and notable locations around Banff.

A Sky Line Trail Hikers of the Canadian Rockies maps and constitution booklet. The booklet lists the council members of the organization and outlines the various articles of the constitution such as meetings, funds, by-laws, notices, and amendments. The booklet also includes several maps of locations in the Canadian Rockies such as Emerald Lake and Yoho Valley, trail routes to Mount Assiniboine, and trails around Lake Louise, Moraine Lake, Lake Wapta, and Lake O’Hara. The booklet was printed in Canada.

The bulk of the booklet provides background and description of major landmarks in the Rockies from the point of view of the prospective tourist, with the remainder of the text being devoted to describing tourist accommodations along the CNR line through the mountains. Also included are a list of available gold courses, an advertisement for Canadian National Railways Hotels, and a list of worldwide agency representatives for the company. Amongst the photographs and illustrations contained in the booklet, depicting area landmarks and accommodations, is a color painting by Emily Carr.

Included within are an explanation of the company’s coat of arms, a brief history of the company, including detail on some current exhibits on display there, and a brief listing of the company’s current property holdings. Included alongside the text are several photographs of Lower Fort Garry and the Old Fort Garry gate, as well as an illustration and a map of Lower Fort Garry.

Union Bank of Canada pass book belonging to Frederick Woodborne. The book is a record of Frederick Woodborne’s account balances each month. On the cover of the booklet, the instructions indicate depositors have to send their booklets to the bank at the end of each month to be balanced.

A small collection of promotional items from 2019 for the Pioneer Press Ltd print shop in Edmonton, Alberta, celebrating 125 years of operation. Included is a shot glass with the logo on the front that is still in its box, a metal medallion embossed with the company logo and two pamphlets. The first pamphlet outlines the history of the printing press which was started by R. P. Pettapiece who moved from Eastern Canada to Alberta and settled in Strathcona, Alberta. This pamphlet includes photographs of the early days of the printing press. The second pamphlet provides information about the products and services offered by Pioneer Press Ltd.

A policy statement for the construction of the Canada Pacific Railway written by J.W. Crouter. The policy is an argument that the railway should be constructed as a government work and constructed by Canadian citizens, as opposed to constructed by a private company. J.W. Crouter outlines a plan for the Canadian government to sell properties and land to make up the funds for the construction of the railway. J.W. Crouter also states that should the government reject this proposal, he will form a party which will take power from those in opposition.

The catalogue advertises farm machinery sold by different companies such as Drummond’s Farm Services Ltd., H&L Motors Ltd., Little Morden Service, Notre Dame Motors Ltd., Shachtay Sales & Service Ltd., and Shoal Lake Farm Equipment Ltd. Each page lists the machinery sold by one of the listed companies such as tractors, harvesting equipment, haying machines, swathers, tillage and seeding machines, augers, and smaller machines for yard and garden maintenance, along with their prices. On the back of the catalogue there is contact information listed for each company included in the catalogue.

It is written in both French and English, and the booklet may be flipped over horizontally and read through to the center (30 pages) for each language.

These photo albums, or the photographs in them, may have belonged to Daniel McDonald, an insurance company manager who moved from Scotland to Winnipeg in 1883. McDonald’s home is photographed several times throughout the albums and there are several photographs of graves bearing the surname McDonald, as well as a photograph of Daniel McDonald himself.

Frank Baum, and activity books. This subseries consists of the following sub-subseries: The Wizard of Oz (1934-2012), Related Books (1995-2014), and Non-fiction and Activity Books (1999-2017).

Accession consists of digital recordings, images, and PDFs of John Szczepaniak interviews for The Untold History of Japanese Game Developers. Sound and video recordings consist of interviews with Japanese game developers. All records are in digital format.

In May 2013 Szcepaniak's The Untold History of Japanese Game Developers started as a Kickstarter project to produce a book with interviews covering things never documented before in Japanese game development. Using his contacts from his time in journalism and magazine production he built a list of interviewees. The interviews were published in 3 volumes and contained over 100 interviewees. 95% of the interviews accumulated audio which has been transcribed and published. As well, more than half the interviews were supplemented with textual records provided via email. In some cases entire interviews were done exclusively through email correspondence. Given the large amount of email, these are not included in the archived records.

This subseries consists of personal files and ephemera relating to The Wizard of Oz that were collected by Dr. Margaret Mackey and donated to the University of Alberta Libraries. It contains printouts of web articles relating to TV and stage adaptations, online catalogues and advertisements. As well as correspondences, reference searches, magazine and newspaper cutouts, and an overhead presentation.

A Canadian Sailings magazine titled “Transportation & Trade Logistics” which was published on June 26, 2017. Canadian Sailings was a shipping magazine that was published weekly in Montreal, Quebec. This issue of the magazine focuses specifically on the Port of Thunder Bay in Thunder Bay, Ontario. The magazine contains several articles that provide information about the operations of the Port of Thunder Bay such as grain shipments, projections for the summer season, grain diversity, and a local tug company investing in diverse assets. Several advertisements for shipping merchants and service providers are placed throughout the magazine.

This series consists of materials collected by Dr. Margaret Mackey and donated to the University of Alberta Libraries. It features materials related to L. Frank Baum's 1900 children's novel, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and its adaptations. It contains books, which include various versions and editions of the story, books that reference or are based off of the Wizard of Oz, and non-fiction and activity books pertaining to the story, L. Frank Baum, or its movie adaptation, and activity books. The series also contains various video adaptations of the story, video games, audio recordings, collectibles and some of Dr. Margaret Mackey's personal files which relate to The Wizard of Oz. Commemorative booklet produced in honour of the September 2016 opening of Rogers Place Arena in Edmonton, Alberta. Construction on the multi-use arena began in March 2014 and was completed on 8 September 2016. The arena is the home of the Edmonton Oilers [NHL] and the Edmonton Oil Kings [WHL] hockey teams.
