Description
Academic Writings

Series consists of draft and unpublished articles by several authors, usually about an aspect of African literature. Series is arranged alphabetically by the name of the author.

Audio Recordings

Series consists of interviews with African authors (famous and unknown), scientists, and women of distinction. They represent the entire interviewing "oveure" of Lee Nichols of the Voice of America from the 1960's to the 1990's. The 8" tapes were edited for broadcast to Africa. They exist in three other libraries in the world. The 11" tapes are raw interviews (unedited) and no other copies exist anywhere. There are also some interviews with Caribbean authors and related music performances.

Part of Arnold-Nitecki Africana Collection

Series consists of articles by and about the Cameroon writer Mongo Beti. Professor Arnold obtained much of this material via Inter Library Loan and many of the articles are in French. Material in this series was compiled for his unpublished bibliography (see Series 7). An abbreviated version of the bibliography was published as an appendix (p. 425-444) to Stephen H. Arnold, ed. Critical Perspectives on Mongo Beti. (Boulder [Colo.]: Lynne Rienner Publishers, 1998)

Correspondence
Series · 1979 - 1998
Part of Arnold-Nitecki Africana Collection

Series consists of both in-coming and out-going letters. Correspondence related to a specific project or organization will be found in the respective series (e.g. Guinness Literary Contest, Draft Publications).

Country Files

Series consists of notes, newspaper clippings, and printed ephemera about various African countries. Topics covered include history, culture, and politics. It is probable that some of this material was collected by Nitecki to support his teaching and research activities.

Draft Publications
Series · 1980 - 1993
Part of Arnold-Nitecki Africana Collection

Series consists of drafts and off-prints of articles by Arnold. There are also several versions of Arnold's unpublished comprehensive bibliography about Mongo Beti (1953-1993) as well as correspondence with publishers about this book. An abbreviated version of the bibliography was published as an appendix (pp. 425-444) to Stephen H. Arnold, ed. Critical Perspectives on Mongo Beti. (Boulder [Colo.]: Lynne Rienner Publishers, 1998)

Literary Manuscripts
Series · 197?
Part of Arnold-Nitecki Africana Collection

Series consists of unpublished Cameroon Anglophone literature, collected by or sent to Arnold. A few items appear to be from the Guinness Literary Contest (Series 1). Some of the files include correspondence with the authors.

Miscellaneous/Subject Files

Series consists of files on a broad range of subjects relative to Africa and African literature. It is probable that some of this material was collected by Andre Nitecki to support his teaching and research activities.

Slides
Series · ? - 1985
Part of Arnold-Nitecki Africana Collection

Series consists of slides depicting African art, architecture, and other material culture, etc. Other subjects represented include China and European art generally. Some of these slides have apparently come from commercial sources. Most of this material was collected by Andre Nitecki to support his teaching and research activities; Arnold collected some of it.
