        History

        Norman Yates was born in Calgary, Alberta in 1923. After working as a radio technician during the Second World War he attended the Ontario College of Art where he graduated in 1950. In 1954 Yates began teaching at the University of Alberta Faculty of Fine Art, where taught for 33 years. In 1987 Yates and his wife Whynona moved to Victoria, British Columbia.
        In 2003 Yates was honoured with a lifetime achievement award from The Canadian Artists' Representation (CARFAC).
