The Faculty of Rehabilitation at the University of Alberta (U of A) began in 1954 as a diploma program in physical therapy through the Faculty of Medicine. The School of Physical and Occupational Therapy (School of Rehabilitation Medicine) was established in 1964. The School added a speech pathology program in 1969. In March of 1976 it was renamed the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine. The Faculty offers bachelor and master of science programs in Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy and a master of science program in Speech Pathology and Audiology. In 1979 the U of A became the first institution in Canada to provide a graduate degree in physical therapy.
