        Experimental surgery was conducted at the University of Alberta in the McEachern Cancer Research Laboratory eight years previous to the Institute's inauguration in 1960. The Institute is a non-departmental research facility for research fellows and clinical faculty at the University; its major areas of study include gastrointestinal motility, pancreatic and islet cell transplantation, pulmonary research, and laser-Doppler flowmetry. In addition to research, the Institute offers postgraduate coursework in experimental surgery. Directors: [1960]-1963 R. Cameron Harrison; 1963-1978 Konstanty P.
