History
Paul Robison was born on September 22, 1935 and raised in Calgary, Alberta. In 1951 Robison enlisted with the Calgary Highlanders. Before entering the Royal Roads Military College in 1954 he was promoted to Officer Cadet. Robison continued his military career during his post secondary education as a Officer Cadet in the Canadian Officer Training Corps and in the Regular Officer Training Program. In 1957 he took training in Germany for the summer. In 1958 he graduated from the University of Alberta (U of A) with a Bachelor of Arts. In the spring of the same year, Robison was commissioned as a Lieutenant and posted to the First Battalion, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry in Victoria, British Columbia. He was later transferred to Edmonton, Alberta in 1960 as a recruiting officer. He obtained a promotion to Captain in 1962 leading to being posted to Ghana’s Military Academy as an instructor for one year. This was followed by a one year position as a Company Commander in their recruit training school.
In 1964 he was made Second in Command of B Company, Second Battalion, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry. This position was then followed by positions as Company Commanders’ Course, Assistant Chief Inspector and Adjutant of the PPCLI Depot. In 1967 Robison was reposted back in Germany with the Second Battalion as Officer in Charge of A Company. He was then made Second in Command of Support Company and Chief Instructor of the Battle School. Robison returned to Edmonton in 1970 and posted to Base Edmonton as a Personnel Selection Officer.
In 1972 Robison was appointed the Dean of Arts at the University of Calgary. During this time he rejoined the Militia as a Personnel Selection Officer where he worked until his retirement from the military in 1975. Robison also worked as an administrator at the U of A for many years. He retired from the U of A in 1996 as the Admin Director, Officer of the Board of Governors.
He was married to his wife Donna and had three daughters: Cheryl, Elisa, and Lisa Mah. Robison passed away in January 2022 at the age of 86 from a brain aneurysm.
