Title varies. From 1945 onward, issued in colour. The Canadian encyclopedia entry "Comics books in English Canada" - available online at http://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/comic-books-in-english-canada/ (accessed 21 January 2017) - refers to Robin Hood comics as one of the first two "truly Canadian" comics. In 1945, Robin Hood comics merged with Freelance to form Freelance-Robin Hood. The next year, the two titles again split into independent publications. Among the recurring features in both Robin Hood comics and Freelance-Robin Hood was "Men of the Mounted: True tales of the R.C.M.P."
Holdings: vol. 2, no. 1 (March-April 1943); vol. 2, no. 3 (July-August 1943); vol. 2, no. 4 (September-October 1943); vol. 3, no. 29 (November-December 1945); vol. 3, no. 30 (January-February 1946); vol. 3, no. 31 (June-July 1946); and vol. 3, no. 32 (August-September 1946)
The Lund Comics Collection holds four issues of Robin Hood comics and Freelance-Robin Hood containing "Men of the Mounted: True tales of the R.C.M.P." stories: vol. 3, no. 29; vol. 3, no. 30; vol. 3, no. 31; and vol. 3, no. 32. Vol. 3, no. 31 contains two "Men of the Mounted" stories.
The Robin Hood comics series also presented a recurring R.C.M.P.-based feature called "The scarlet sentinel." What appears to be the first appearance of "The scarlet sentinel" - vol. 2, no. 1 - was not a comic but a brief article on the history of the R.C.M.P. designed to promote the forthcoming appearance of an adventure series under the same title. Advertising on pages 32 and 33 refers to the "preview" essay and that subsequent issues would each unfold the thrilling adventures of the R.C.M.P. According to the "Men of the Mounties" entry in Comicbookdaily.com - available online at http://www.comicbookdaily.com/collecting-community/whites-tsunami-weca-splashes/men-mounted/ (accessed 21 January 2017) - some of these would be reprintings of earlier "Men of the Mounted" strips.
Information on the publishing history of Anglo-American Publishing Company and its features has been taken from John Bell, "A history: English Canadian comic books" and Robert MacMillan, "The War years: Anglo-American Publishing Ltd." in John Bell, ed., Canuck Comics, Montreal: Matrix Books, c1986.
