Dianne K. Kieren studied at the University of Minnesota, earning BA and MS degrees there. She also completed her PhD there in 1969. She joined the newly formed Department of Family Studies at the University of Alberta in 1970, serving as its Chair in 1970-1986. In 1988, she took on the role of Associate Vice President (Academic). In 1997, she retired and was granted the title of professor emeritus of Human Ecology.
Kieren has published several articles about women’s health, body image, and sexual health education. In 1997/1998, Kieren was awarded the Woman of the Year Award by the Academic Women’s Association. As well, the Dianne Kieren Graduate Award in Human Ecology at the University of Alberta was named in Kieren’s honour.
