Dr. Margaret Mackey Collection

The collection consists of materials collected by Dr. Margaret Mackey (1948-) and donated to the University of Alberta Libraries. It contains materials that have been collected by Dr. Margaret Mackey over the course of her lifetime and include books, videos, audio recordings, collectible items, electronic games, reports, ephemera, and some of her personal files. The materials contained in this collection relate to various children's book series that Dr. Margaret Mackey was interested in, including: Frances Hodgson Burnett's The Secret Garden, L.M. Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables, Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials, Lewis Carrol's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, P.L. Traver's Mary Poppins, Louisa May Alcott's Little Women, L. Frank Baum's The Wizard of Oz, and Beatrix Potter's The Tale of Peter Rabbit. Along with those series, the collection also contains educational materials relating to mainly the teaching of English. As well as numerous personal files collected by Dr. Margaret Mackey, in the form of correspondences, news articles (print and online), teaching materials, personal writings, and materials related to publisher Pearson P.L.C. This collection contains the following series: Frances Hodgson Burnett and The Secret Garden (1949-2006), L.M. Montgomery and Anne of Green Gables (1985-2013), Philip Pullman and His Dark Materials (1995-2013), Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (1960-2012), P.L. Travers and Mary Poppins (1996-2014), Louisa May Alcott and Little Women (1933-2011), Education Materials (1950-2013), L. Frank Baum and The Wizard of Oz (1934-2017), Beatrix Potter and Peter Rabbit (1955-2013), and Personal Files (1977-2007).

Anne of Green Gables

This sub-subseries consists of books relating to the Anne of Green Gables novel series that were collected by Dr. Margaret Mackey and donated to the University of Alberta Libraries. It contains edited and adapted versions of the original novels, non-fiction books that explore Anne of Green Gables and society, other books within the Anne of Green Gables canon written by L.M. Montgomery and Canadian author Budge Wilson, books relating to the 1985 television mini-series, activity books, scrapbooks, and a pop-up book.

Road to Avonlea

This sub-subseries consists of books from authors Gail Hamilton and Heather Conkie's adaptations of the 1990s television series Road to Avonlea that is based on L.M. Montgomery's 1912 series Chronicles of Avonlea and its sequel Further Chronicles of Avonlea. Which were collected by Dr. Margaret Mackey and donated to the University of Alberta Libraries.

Ephemera

This subseries consists of L.M. Montgomery and Anne of Green Gables related ephemera collected by Dr. Margaret Mackey and donated to the University of Alberta Libraries. It consists of two bags from Anne of Green Gables stores, a box for Anne of Green Gables chocolates, several pamphlets (in English, French, Japanese, and Polish), bookmarks, and stamps relating to the Anne of Green Gables centenary, a playbill, a page from a catalogue, and a TV Guide with an Anne of Green Gables article.

Books

This subseries consists of books relating to author Philip Pullman and his Dark Materials series of books that were collected by Dr. Margaret Mackey and donated to the University of Alberta Libraries. It contains various versions and editions of the His Dark Materials series, including a graphic novel and supplementary novels. There are also materials relating to the live-action adaptation of the first novel The Golden Compass that include activity books, game guides, magazines, and movie novelizations, and a collection of non-fiction work written about the His Dark Materials series, as well as works relating to the stage-play of the series, including a script and works on the play. This subseries consists of the following sub-subseries: His Dark Materials (1995-2015), The Golden Compass Movie Materials (2007), Other Works by Philip Pullman (1996-2000), Writings on His Dark Materials (2001-2009), and Stage Play Adaptation (2003-2004).
