A programme for a lecture by Walter Duranty on Russia and post-war Europe. The lecture was presented by the Winnipeg Press Club and held at the Winnipeg Auditorium on November 9th, 1943. Walter Duranty was a famed foreign correspondent, author, and journalist, and served as Moscow bureau chief of The New York Times for fourteen years. The programme outlines the sequence of events and also provides a bio for Walter Duranty. On the verso, under the illustration of soldiers, there is a statement indicating that "this space contributed in the interests of Canada's War Effort by the Hudson Bay Mining & Smelting Co. Limited."

Invoices and receipts span the period of time from 10 January 1967 to 14 September 1967. Purchases largely consisted of field crop seeds, fertilizers, and crop insurance.

Invoices, receipts and document span the period of time from 24 January 1967 to 31 December 1967. Contents include grain and feed purchases; veterinary supplies; turkey insemination services; test reports and "Certificates of Condemnation" related to the conduction of poultry flock testing and inspections; records of poultry sales and shipments; etc.

Additionally includes 10 handwritten notes and receipts regarding sales and purchases of poultry or products related to the poultry enterprise.

An informational booklet on a variety of poultry diseases including nutritional, bacterial, viral, fungous, and protozoan diseases, as well as parasites, reproductive disorders, cannibalism, etc. Laid-in before the first page is a letter addressed to Don McFadden from J. M. Isa in response to a request for information on blackhead disease. It includes the author's opinion that the recommended medications "act as a vermifuge and eliminate the caecal worm which carries the infection."

The booklet was published by Line Elevators Farm Service in March 1945, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The booklet provides information about the care and maintenance of strawberries, raspberries, bush fruits, blueberries, cranberries, sweetberry honeysuckle, pembinas, and Saskatoon berries among others. A collection of communications from the Manitoba Telephone System to Donald McFadden regarding service usage and costs. "Customer's Copy" receipts from each month of 1965 show charges for long distance and exchange service. A "Statement of Remittance" for $2.50 is marked "Received" and is attached to a carbon copy receipt for a half hour tractor rental. Breakdowns of long distance charges are listed by date show the receiving location of outgoing calls and the charged amount, with all entries checked off in blue pen. The backs of the sheets contain a "partial list of abbreviations" of locations within the province of Manitoba. Included is an empty envelope self-addressed to the Manitoba Telephone System, which has been crossed out and "Receipts (Income)" written above in pen, likely to be used as a divider in a filing system.

A collection of meeting minutes for joint meetings between the Manitoba Turkey Producers’ Marketing Board and the Turkey Advisory Committee. The meeting dates range from June 27, 1969, to April 17, 1972, although one document is undated. The meetings were held at various locations but the most common meeting location was 1200 King Edward Street in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Each document lists the members of the Marketing Board and the members of the Advisory Committee who attended the meeting, except for the minutes from March 2, 1971, which merely states “Present were both complete Boards.” Donald McFadden was present at every meeting. The majority of the letters from the marketing board are addressed to Premier Walter Weir of Manitoba, Douglas Watt from the Manitoba Ministry of Agriculture, and H.A. Olson the Minister of Agriculture at the House of Commons in Ottawa, Canada. The majority of the letters addressed to various government officials were written by John P. Tanchak, chairman of The Manitoba Turkey Producers’ Marketing Board. The letters are dated between April 19, 1968 and November 29, 1968. Three letters are undated, two of which are marked as drafts. The correspondences discuss various issues relating to marketing regulations, policy creation, and trade restrictions for turkey producers in Manitoba. The collection also includes a letter from a Canada Department of Agriculture Health of Animals Branch veterinarian who discusses methods for measuring the weight of condemned turkey carcasses.

Two newsletters and three memos from the Manitoba Turkey Producers’ Marketing Board. The first newsletter was written by R.O. Douglas, Acting Manager of the marketing board on October 3, 1968, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The newsletter is marked as Volume 1 and discusses the appointment of the Provisional Board and their efforts to get a specific marketing plan approved by the Provincial Government of Manitoba. The second newsletter does not list an author’s name but was written on December 13, 1968, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The newsletter is marked as Volume 2 and discusses the long-awaited approval of the Manitoba Turkey Producers’ Marketing Board plan by the Provincial Government of Manitoba. After much deliberation, the plan was approved on December 9, 1968, approximately. The first memo does not indicate a specific author, but was written on June 27, 1968, and outlines a general policy statement. The second memo was written by R.O. Douglas on [July 4, 1968], indicating that the Department of Industry "requesting that a representative participate in a press conference." The third memo was written by John Tanchak on July 5, 1968, and reports that those wishing to vote on the marketing plan must be registered as a turkey grower.

A record book and score card for baking and sewing competitions for the Manitoba Boys' and Girls' Clubs exhibit at the 1919 Farm Congress and Soil Products' Exhibition in Winnipeg. There are two entries in the baking contest record for 13 loaves of white bread and 27 buns. A small metallic-silver colored paper heart is laid-in between pages 6 and 7.

A certificate of first communion for Marie Josephine, dated June 12, 1881. The communion was performed at the St. Boniface Cathedral by Monseigneur Alexandre-Antonin Taché, a Canadian Roman Catholic priest, and the Archbishop of the St. Boniface. All the text on the certificate, which includes written and printed words, is in French. The text at the top of the certificate reads “Souvenir Précieux à L'âme Fidèle'' which translates in English to “Precious Memory for the Faithful Soul.” Beneath this text is a printed image of a priest offering communion to several young women veiled and dressed in white.

A pamphlet advertising a Narrative Lecture on David Corson by Reverend Hiram Hull, B.A. According to the pamphlet the lecture was scheduled for the evening of February 12th at 8:00 pm at the McDougall Methodist Church in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Tickets to the lecture cost 25 cents each. The pamphlet contains two reviews of the lecture, some advertisements for local businesses, and a directory of the McDougall Methodist Sunday School board of management. The lecture appears to be based on the book “The Redemption of David Corson” by Charles Frederic Goss, originally published in 1900. It is a story of a man whose faith is tested.

A brochure from 1932 celebrating 50 years of the Campbell Bros. & Wilson, Limited Company, a wholesale grocery and provision business. The brochure states that the company was founded in 1882 in Winnipeg, Manitoba and expanded to cities such as Saskatoon, Regina, Swift Current, Moose Jaw, Calgary, Lethbridge, Edmonton, Red Deer, and Grande Prairie. The brochure consists of various profiles of employees of the company and information about the different establishments in different cities.
Also includes an envelope for the brochure with a blue shield-shaped logo that says "Royal Shield Brand of Goods 50 Years."

This ledger belonged to Hugo Wiesner, a Russian- Jewish immigrant, who arrived in Winnipeg in 1904. Accounts are entered in pen in a fine cursive script, ranging between 1913 - 1956. James Richardson, Acme Lumber Co. from Moose Jaw, SK; Mortimer Real Estate; Joseph Maw and boy, Ltd are some of the accounts entered. Included are two paper Manitoba Driver Licenses from 1944, for Mr. Wiesner. A curious look into the history of Winnipeg , from the viewpoint of an accountant.

A finely detailed map of the city of Winnipeg, Manitoba and the surrounding suburbs. The map includes house numbers listed on the back and a smaller map in the upper right-hand corner indicating postal zones. As indicated by the legend, a space of about 4cm represents a mile on the map. On the front cover, there is also a smaller map of off-street parking lots in the Winnipeg downtown area. The maps were all drawn by Roy Pickard and distributed by the Canadian News Co. Ltd. The cost of the map at the time is marked as 50 cents.

A small collection of papers mostly about the Slavic Land Office in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The first two letters are addressed to the Davey Brothers in Westbourne, Manitoba, although one is from [J. Topic] at the Slavic Land Office and dated April 5, 1930, and the other is from W.A. Oliver at the W.A. Oliver Agencies dated November 25, 1930. The letters both discuss separate situations of the purchasing and selling of land. The remaining pages are blank listing forms for the Slavic Land Company which was located at 307 Scott Black in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The forms provide space to fill out details such as the number of acres, the farm qualities of acres, price, included equipment, and mortgage details.

A small folded booklet titled “How the Loyal Employees of a Winnipeg Factory Supported Victory Loan On Opening Day.” When the booklet is unfolded, it reveals a B&W panoramic photograph print of a large group of employees of the Swift Canadian Company Ltd. The caption reads “500 Loyal Employees, or 94 per cent of the Swift Canadian Co. Ltd. have bought Victory Bonds– 80 per cent of these people are of foreign birth. Who can refuse to buy VICTORY BONDS.” The Swift Canadian Company Ltd, founded in 1911, was located in Winnipeg, Manitoba and was a wholesaler for a variety of goods such as meat, dairy, and poultry. Victory Loans or Victory Bonds were Canadian government appeals for money to assist in financing the war efforts for WWI and WWII.

The Report and Account of the 289th Annual General Court of the Hudon’s Bay Company which was held on May 2, 1958 at Beaver Hall in Garlick Hill, London. At the beginning of the report, there is an introductory letter written by E.F. Newlands, the Secretary of the Canadian Committee in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The report includes an outline of the events of the meeting, a list of board members, a consolidated financial summary of the company, and an address and report to proprietors, both written by W.J. Keswick, Governor of the Board. The report also includes a consolidated profit and loss account of the Hudson’s Bay Company.

A bound copy of two volumes of the Canadian Rusyn publication, printed in Ukrainian. When translated the English, the title of each publication is “Calendar.”The first volume was published in 1918 and the second volume was published in 1919. The covers and binding appear handmade from hide. The two volumes when translated to English contain articles about current events and cultural events relevant to the Ukrainian settlers in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Throughout the volumes, there are multiple illustrations and photographs. The volumes also include several advertisements for local companies.

The account of a journey from Fort Abercrombie, North Dakota to Fort Garry (Winnipeg), Manitoba and back again in 1864, reproduced and printed by the North Dakota Historical Society. A two page letter dated May 1909 from the author to the Massachusetts Historical Society, mostly concerning the translation of Indigenous names into English, is pasted into the book between the last page and endpaper.

A small vignette photograph booklet titled “Edmonton Alberta and Alberta Farm Scenes, 1906.” Inside the booklet is one long foldout page with a different vignette photograph on each fold. Some of the photographs included are of the Alberta Hotel, McKay Ave. School, the residence of John McDougall, the Canadian Bank of Commerce, and the Windsor Hotel in Edmonton, Alberta. The booklet also includes some text that outlines Edmonton’s growth over the previous four years and “Alberta’s Progress in Dairying.” All of the photographs were taken by C. Tait in Edmonton, Alberta, and the booklet was published by W.A. Dawson in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
