This subseries contains information specifically for adolescents, so this is the most illustrated and colourful series in the collection. The majority of the comic book format items in the collection are in this series. There is one comic book specifically for Native American adolescents. "Sex on Earth and other planets" is unique in that it is a comic book conceived, designed and written by teens for teens; created in Los Angeles in 1992, it is present in both English and Spanish. A Hawaiian comic book called "Bloodstream Follies" presents a cast of seven teens who expose themselves to AIDS via sharing needles for recreational drugs and steroids, and unsafe heterosexual and homosexual sex; it co-stars the crew of a ship of AIDS viruses. The brochures in this series contain titles like "Teens & AIDS" and "Could I get it?"

Walter Harris was awarded this certificate as part of Alberta's centennial celebrations. The certificate reads: "The Alberta Centennial Medal is conferred upon Walter Edgar Harris. In recognition of outstanding service to the people and province of Alberta September 1, 2005".

This collection contains various publications issued by art galleries, auction houses, and other institutions that exhibit and sell works of art. These materials have been divided into three categories: Annual reports and gallery journals, Advertising and promotional material, and Exhibition catalogues and guides. Also included here are materials related to exhibitions and other art-related matters issued by individual artists and institutions that are not generally involved in the display and sale of art. Such items are described in a fourth category, Unaffiliated artists and organisations.

The collection consists of fishing-related ephemeral material such as brochures, maps, photographs, two photo albums, magazine clippings, catalogues, typed speeches, menus, and anglers' ticket books. The majority of the items are from various locations in Canada or the United States of America. Non-North American items include four brochures from New Zealand, and several miscellaneous items from the United Kingdom. Most of the ephemera are from the mid-twentieth century, but the dates are as early as 1909 and as late as 2000. Many of the items in this collection also cover outdoor recreational activities popular at their time of creation.

Information for Friends, Relatives and any non-health care professional who are caring for people who are HIV+ or Living with AIDS. The material aimed at parents are brochures with question and answer scenarios and many have titles that begin with the phrase "Talking to your ..." There is one set of two from the National Safety Council of the United States: "What you should know" & "What your teenager will be learning about AIDS,"

The 'Friends' sub-series provide several examples of similar information, with titles like "When a Friend has AIDS". There is one booklet specific to the effects of HIV / AIDS related dementia with practical tips on accommodations and safety precautions.

Note that with the 'Parents' sub-series there are three items regarding sexuality that are completely unrelated to HIV / AIDS; these provide advice and answers to parents who are concerned that their child might be a homosexual. As these items are aimed at parents they are included here rather than the 'Sexuality' series which is aimed at people of a specific sexuality.

Certificate of Appreciation awarded to Walter Harris on April 3, 2000. Harris and his wife, Phyllis, were founding members of Planned Parenthood Edmonton. They helped to change the Criminal Code so artificial contraception was no longer illegal.

This collection offers an expansive view of the experiences of Chinese immigrants to Canada, particularly in the Prairie Provinces. While many narratives of Chinese immigration to Canada focus on the construction of the CPR, the emphasis here is on the numerous and diverse roles that Chinese immigrants played in Canada's history. This collection explores the Chinese experience through immigration, entrepreneurship, schooling, and other elements of daily life. Among other things, it is made up of photographs, scrapbooks, business documents, personal correspondence, immigration records, magazines, books, phonograph records, and event programs. A great deal of credit is due to Helen Kwan Yee Cheung, who encouraged donations from the local Chinese community thus helping to build a uniquely community-based collection.

Includes photographs, as well as correspondence and miscellaneous materials from Dickins' professional and military career, plus personal memorabilia.

Co-60 gamma ray unit used in cobalt therapy, the use of gamma rays to treat medical issues such as tumors. The Physical Science Centre had a special "cave" built out under the basement with a Co-60 gamma ray unit for the initiation of radio chemical reactions. Slide found in box labeled AECL for the Atomic Energy of Canada Limited. Slide likely used in lecture or public talk.

Two cold rooms one for storing volatile and unstable chemicals and the other is equipped as a laboratory.

Fonds consist of David McKnight’s Canadian Little Magazine and Small Press archive, reflecting his interest in documenting the history of this genre of Canadian publishing, and include the pioneering work in the field done by Wynne Francis whose research files form part of the fonds. Through both of their collecting, the David McKnight fonds consists of materials which cover the history of Canadian small press publishing from 1923-2010.

The designation of the series was arrived at after considering the ordering of the material as it was received at Bruce Peel Special Collections. It was clear that there was an original ordering of the files, often according to an alphabetical or chronological scheme, and the files had titles. David McKnight separated his files broadly into those associated with his mentor and advisor, Wynne Francis, and his own research/collection files, and as much as possible, this structure is maintained. Series titles were arrived at after considering the collection in its entirety, and the apparent order implied by McKnight’s file listings and comments. The material was received in two shipments, but was intended as one donation, so some assignment of series and file titles, combining the material in the two shipments, was necessary. The records are almost all textual, although there are three microfilm reels, two cassette tapes, and two photographs.

Taking into consideration both the information provided by David McKnight in a letter to the Head of Bruce Peel Special Collections, and the contents of the records received, six series and several sub-series were established to better facilitate access to the collection.

The collection consists of a sampling of dime novels from ten novel series. Two series (the Deadwood Dick Library and Beadle's Frontier Series) are complete runs. A few issues have multiple copies. The detective story is the predominant genre in this collection, represented by significant holdings of issues from the Old Sleuth Library, the Nick Carter Library and the Secret Service series. Western adventure and romance stories are also well-represented in Beadle's Frontier Series. Despite the age and acidic paper of the dime novels, their condition ranges from Fair to Very Good, with the covers of only a few copies ripped, torn, or missing altogether. Novels are stored individually in 9 x 12 inch envelopes.

The archives reflect Dorothy Livesay's earlier work as a poet and consist of poetry manuscripts and typescripts, business correspondence, and typescript drafts of several publications. These records span from 1919 to 1974 and are arranged into four series: Poems: Typescripts and Manuscripts; Poems: Notebooks; Correspondence with Ryerson Press; and Publication Drafts and Author's Prints.

The collection consists of materials collected by Dr. Margaret Mackey (1948-) and donated to the University of Alberta Libraries. It contains materials that have been collected by Dr. Margaret Mackey over the course of her lifetime and include books, videos, audio recordings, collectible items, electronic games, reports, ephemera, and some of her personal files. The materials contained in this collection relate to various children's book series that Dr. Margaret Mackey was interested in, including: Frances Hodgson Burnett's The Secret Garden, L.M. Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables, Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials, Lewis Carrol's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, P.L. Traver's Mary Poppins, Louisa May Alcott's Little Women, L. Frank Baum's The Wizard of Oz, and Beatrix Potter's The Tale of Peter Rabbit. Along with those series, the collection also contains educational materials relating to mainly the teaching of English. As well as numerous personal files collected by Dr. Margaret Mackey, in the form of correspondences, news articles (print and online), teaching materials, personal writings, and materials related to publisher Pearson P.L.C. This collection contains the following series: Frances Hodgson Burnett and The Secret Garden (1949-2006), L.M. Montgomery and Anne of Green Gables (1985-2013), Philip Pullman and His Dark Materials (1995-2013), Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (1960-2012), P.L. Frank Baum and The Wizard of Oz (1934-2017), Beatrix Potter and Peter Rabbit (1955-2013), and Personal Files (1977-2007).

This collection contains material related to the curricula, administration (including documents generated by departments of education and school boards), student life, and alumni activity of various educational organizations ranging from K-12 through post-secondary institutions.
The scholarly and creative output of students and faculty are not generally included here. Literary magazines – since they are often inextricably linked to student newspapers and yearbooks – stand as an exception. Some materials related to extra-curricular student societies and activities such as sports, drama, choirs, etc. will be described in other collections. Exceptions are made, however, for extra-curricular activities that do not possess an obvious home within other categories. For example, documents related to debating societies may be found here.

The Fisher Scientific Lecture Award of the Chemical Institute of Canada is awarded for commendable achievement and scholarship in statistical science praising the impact of statistical methods of scientific investigation. Harris won this high esteemed for his outstanding leadership in analytical chemistry and contributions in Gas Chromatography. His award lecture "Gas Chromatography- Developments in Temperature Programming and Pyrolysis GC" was presented during the 52nd Canadian Chemical Conference and Exhibition in Montreal on May 28, 1969. This is the second year that the award had been given out.

This archival collection is composed of textual and graphic materials related to the Hudson's Bay Company, the fur trade in Canada, and early European settlement in Canada. The collection includes correspondence between high-ranking employees at Hudson's Bay Company fur trade posts, personal correspondence between settlers or Hudson's Bay Company employees and their families, and Hudson's Bay Company reports, proclamations, contracts, and others records. The involvement of Indigenous peoples in the Canadian fur trade is also described throughout this collection. With a few exceptions, most items within the collection were created during the early- to mid-1800s.

This subseries contains general information on AIDS for a general audience. The geographical locations represented include several states and provinces, with two versions of a large format booklet from Sweden. The related health concerns sub-series provides the most detailed descriptions of other sexually transmitted infections and opportunistic diseases. This sub-series also contain specific information for intravenous drug users. The debunking myths sub-series provides insights in to the prejudices and assumptions about HIV /AIDS many people held in the 1980's and even into the early 1990's.

The 'General Audience' subcategories represent the largest portion of the collection. They were created to provide information to the general public and as such are diverse in form and depth of coverage.

There are various sets of editions or versions of the same brochure or booklet which provide insights into the evolution of popular myths and medical misconceptions, these items also provide examples of how language used to describe HIV /AIDS changed as the medical community gained more detailed understanding of the mechanism of the virus.

Typical titles for the items include: "What you should know" "Get the Facts!" and "How to Not get AIDS." Atypical and more provocative titles include: "AIDS Kills Women Men and Babies" and "What you think you know about AIDS could be dead wrong."

Many of the comic books and graphic brochures feature "superheroes" with names like 'King Kondom' and 'Grand Master Blaster.'

The 'Specific Audience' subcategories are items that were created to address the information needs of specific group, for example 'Caregivers' includes, friends, and parents, but does not include counsellors or health care professionals.

This subseries contains a large variety of materials which provide primary prevention information on HIV and AIDS. The largest single topic covered is 'Condom Use', followed by 'Testing' and 'Counselling.' The items with creative packaging were all created in Alberta, most by the AIDS Network of Edmonton Society which include actual condoms. This is the only series which includes correspondence in the form of 2 letters from Barry Breau the Executive Director of the AIDS Network of Edmonton. The 'pak' from this group includes 3 flattened "Cootie Catchers" on testing, safe sex, and talking about HIV / AIDS. Instructions and pre-folded photocopies of the Cootie Catchers have been included; please do not fold the originals.

This series contains four sub-series all of which are directed at Health Personnel or First Responders who may come into contact with bodily fluids during their normal work day.

Most of this series is information which targets the specific concerns of workers in public safety, health and emergency personnel. There is also information for Dentists. Most of this series in in the form of booklets or full sized bulletins or newsletters. One booklet which is present in three versions, two from 1984 and one from 1988, show both the progression of information and regional differences in how it was communicated.

Three items target concerns regarding Blood Donation and Blood Supply. The booklet from Saskatchewan Health is comprehensive in describing what all levels of hospital staff must do as 'Universal precautions against blood-born pathogens.'

Complementary Health Practitioners and practices are discussed in three newsletters on the following topics: Chinese Herbs, Clear Heat, and Acupuncture. The newsletters are 'Professional Health Concerns' and 'the Quan Yin Newsletter.'

There are a few training and resource items and one information kit from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in the USA. This kit is especially interesting to Health researchers as it contains the collections only examples of scholarly articles and abstracts regarding condoms as an effective preventative measure. It dates from 1993 and includes tip-sheets for talking points with patients and three A4 sized posters promoting condom use.

This collection of health information is focused on pamphlets and fliers promoting primary prevention measures to the general public and, to a lesser degree, Health Professionals. The drop-down pages are organized as series level finding aids.

Most artifacts are in English and were produced in Canada or the United States of America. Also there are several artifacts in multiple versions by year, the changes in information between editions is both interesting and instructive.

Although primarily of interest for health researchers this collection may also be of interest to a variety of researchers; for example those interested in depictions of minorities including First Nations / Native Americans, Africans, Asians and sexual minorities. The collection may also be of interest to the following disciplines: Art (graphic design & illustration), Education, Counselling, Gender studies, Graphic novels, History, Linguistics (especially slang), Multiculturalism, Public Health policy, Social work, and Sociology.
