Correspondence sent to SBS in his capacity as Colonel in Command of Military District #10, based at the Fort Osborne Barracks in Winnipeg; includes correspondence with individuals at the Department of Militia and Defence; from Canadian Highlanders Regiment, and two letters written to Lord Strathcona from SBS regarding his demotion in rank after returning to Canada from South Africa. One letter is written to certify that SBS served in the Red River Expeditionary Force in 1870-1871 (written by D.A. Macdonald who served as Captain and Adjutant of the Regiment).
