Bingo Gold Mines was one of the first Canadian mining companies to be convicted of tampering with gold samples. They were convicted of fraud in 1925 for salting ore samples with gold to encourage investors to buy stock in the gold mine.”

The photograph collection of Leonard William Finlow, referred to as L.W.F. Notes on the verso of most of the photographs detail names, places, and dates. The collection shows his young life in England, a brief military service, and ranches and farms in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and B.C.

The annual report of the Provincial Board of Health for Manitoba in 1914. The report was written by R. M. Simpson, M.D., the Chairman of the Provincial Board of Health. The report covers various topics such as infant mortality rates, Winnipeg’s water supply, water pollution, cases of consumption, and urban overcrowding.

A French report written by Abbé J.-Ad. Sabourin, a doctor of theology, and a priest in St-Pierre Jolys, Manitoba. The small book, originally published in November 1928, is a long excerpt taken from the full publication at the Laval University in Québec. The report makes the argument that the primary school curriculum in Manitoba has strayed too far from teaching grounded in Catholic morality, and needs to be adjusted.

A collection of B&W photographs depicting a small parade of floats at the [Churchill Research Range] in Manitoba. One float has a sign that reads “R.C.E. If you can’t live with em can you live without em?” and has a bathtub, a floodlight, two telephones and other equipment aboard the float. Another float is shaped like a chimney with the acronym “R.C.A.S.E” plastered on the side. Another float carries an igloo, a stuffed polar bear, and a woman in a big coat sitting in a chair. That float has the words “U.S. Army” on the side.

Four handwritten notes and letters from Maurice Constantin-Weyer, a French writer, who lived in Manitoba for a decade. Constantin-Weyer was famous for winning the Prix Goncourt in 1928 for his book, Un homme se penche sur son passé (A Man Scans His Past). Much of the inspiration for the book was drawn from his experiences in Canada. The letter dated from 1937 is an inquiry into his invalid pension from WWI.

A French book titled “Sols Des Prairies de L’Ouest: Leur Nature at Leur Composition” which translates in English to “Western Prairie Soils: Their Nature and their Composition.” The book was written by Frank T. Shutt, a chemist for federal experimental farms, and published in August 1910. It was published by the order of Sydney A. Fisher, Minister of Agriculture in Ottawa, Ontario. The book is labelled as Bulletin No. 6 in the second series, and a note indicates that the second series of these bulletins focuses on information that will only be interesting to a limited number of people as it is increasingly specific. The book discusses the soil in each prairie province (Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta) in different sections.

Regulations respecting grazing and hay lands in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta were established by Order-in-Council dated 27 July 1905 and include general regulations around the issue of leases for grazing and hay lands; leases of school lands for grazing; permits to cut hay; leases to cut hay; and penalties for cutting hay without authority.

Regulations for the administration of grazing and hay lands in the Railway Belt of British Columbia were approved by Orders-in-Council dated 4 June 1904 and 5 July 1904, and include general regulations around the issue of leases for grazing and hay lands.

Regulations for Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and the Peace River Tract in British Columbia were established by Order-in-Council dated 16 Feb. 1914 and include general and specific regulations surrounding Leases for Grazing on Dominion Lands and Grazing Permits on School Lands.

Regulations for the administration of grazing lands in the Kamloops Division of the RAilway Belt in British Columbia were approved by Order-in-Council dated 13 May 1910 and include general and specific regulations surorund grazing leases. Orders-in-Council dated 4 June 1904, 5 July 1914, and 4 Sept. 1908 are rescinded.

"Instructions for Making Application for a Grazing Lease of Lands in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and the Peace River Tract in British Columbia" slip in red text pasted to ffep, covering part of title. Explains the process of applying for a grazing lease.

Blank form intended to record student participation in the 1909 Gopher Campaign. Includes spaces to record each student's name, age, and number of gopher tails brought in for 8 weeks, and the total number of tails brought per student.

"Any boy or girl living in Manitoba is eligible to take part in the competition, whether attending school or not". Students are to bring gopher tails to school to be counted, recorded, and burned, and the final table is to be submitted to the Agricultural Extension Service on 28 May 1909. The awarded bounty is then to be distributed among the students "in proportion to the number of gophers killed".

Rules governing the campaign are listed on verso.

Report on co-operative and collective farming published by the Canadian Economic Research Bureau (C.E.R.B.) in response to the election of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (C.C.F.) government in Saskatchewan. The report discusses Mennonites, Hutterites, and "Other Collective Farming Experiments" in Canada, as well as the "Collective Farm Experiment in Russia", to make their position.

A booklet written in Dutch about living in Manitoba, Canada in 1885. The title and caption on the front cover, translated to English, reads “200 million fields for colonization in Manitoba and the great Northwest of America. A free hearth of 160 fields (65 hectares) is available to every head of a family as well as to every male colonist who has reached the age of eighteen.” The foldout map at the beginning of the booklet depicts Manitoba which is outlined in red. The booklet discusses various topics about Manitoba such as the climate, dairy farming, land grants, and labour wages. There are also several information sections about the other provinces in Canada. The booklet was printed by Turner & Dunnett in Liverpool, England.

A booklet with in-depth information regarding farming and homesteading opportunities in Western Canada, "the Granary of the British Empire," published by the Canadian Pacific Railway Department of Natural Resources. A booklet from the Canadian Emigration Department advertising immigration to Canada issued by the authority of the Minister of the Interior in Ottawa, Canada in 1910. The booklet calls for farmers, farm labourers, and domestic servants to immigrate to Canada to find work and states they are “the only people the Canadian immigration department advises to emigrate to Canada” and everyone else should get definite assurance of work or employment before moving to the country. The booklet covers topics such as persons wanted for work, wages, opportunities for farming in the Prairies, times to emigrate, ocean travel rates, and letters from satisfied settlers.

Two letters addressed to Mr. Thos. W. Walker in Willimantic, Connecticut, from Mr. M. A. Bowlby of the Canadian Government Agency in Boston, Massachusetts, dated February 26, 1914 and February 15, 1915. They are replies to Mr. Walker's inquiries about the 160 acre parcels of land being offered for free in Western Canada. The backs of the letters are maps of southern Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba, as well as a portion of the United States, with many small town names listed as stops along the railway. There is also an unused self-addressed envelope from Mr. Bowlby (no postage), and a blank questionnaire asking for names of other people who may be interested in his solicitation.

A booklet provided by the Government of the Dominion of Canada containing photographs, maps, and predominantly agricultural information intending to encourage settlement in the western provinces. Published prior to 1905 and the present-day provincial configuration, the maps display boundaries for the territories of Assiniboia, Athabasca, Mackenzie, Franklin, Keewatin, and Ungava. The title reads "Homes for Millions in Western Canada's Vast Agricultural Domain of Virgin Opportunity and Infinite Resources."

Topics include varieties, use of fertilizers, harvesting, storage, weeds and diseases, etc. A note on the front cover reads "Don McFadden, Rivers (See page 20) Gene(?)." Page 20 contains a paragraph on "Leaf Spots" that has been marked along the left margin and a sentence is underlined.

"Publication No. 269." Agricultural information on corn, sugar beets, field peas, sunflowers, soybeans, rape seed, and safflower, specific to the province of Manitoba. Topics include adaptation, varieties, land preparation, cultivation, harvesting, diseases and pests, etc.

"Publication No. 272." Results of a survey on the quality of seed grade varieties of wheat, oats, and barley, conducted by the "Soils & Crops Branch" in Manitoba.

Agricultural information on field crops for the province of Manitoba. Includes recommendations on crop varieties, fertilizer amounts, and disease and weed control. Map contains "Regional Soil Zones."

"Publication No. 284." Information on the production of rapeseed, "an oil seed crop which is becoming increasingly important as a cash crop in Manitoba." Topics include adaption, varieties, storage, weed control, harvesting, etc.

A collection of assorted postcards of various sizes. All of the postcards are blank on the back except for one which reads "Private Postcard" in a child's handwriting and one which includes a short message with no address information. Two of the postcards also have the year 1944 written on the back. Two have the years 1990 and 1992 printed on them. The postcards are published by various companies, including "Famous V & Sons", "Grant-Mann", "Dexter Supreme", "The Coast Publishing Co.", and "Tripix". Some postcards do not have publishers listed.

The photographs and illustrations on the front of the postcards depict various scenes such as a walrus hunt, farming scenes, cityscapes, ships and harbours, hotels [including the Empress Hotel in Victoria, B.C.], dinosaurs, animals and nature scenes, an igloo, the Golden Boy statue at the legislative building in Manitoba, the St. Boniface cathedral fire and restoration, and totem poles along with statues of an Indigenous chief and woman, among other images.

A publication from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police celebrating the centennial of the organization. The RCMP was founded in 1873 and the centennial was celebrated in 1973. Throughout the booklet, there are various colour photographs and illustrations of RCMP officers, important figures in the organization, planes, events, and group scenes. Accompanying the photographs and illustrations are write-ups about the history of the RCMP.

A brochure titled “Prairie Grains Policy… What are the facts?” published by the Manitoba Department of Agriculture in October 1971. At the beginning of the brochure, there is a foreword written by Samual Uskiw, the Minister of Agriculture in Manitoba. The purpose of the brochure is to “clear up some of the confusion that has surrounded recent national grain policy discussions.” The brochure provides details and clarification for the Temporary Wheat Reserves Act, Bill C-244 or The Prairie Grains Stabilization Act, and Manitoba’s proposal for a Net Income Stabilization Plan.

A blank farm account book. This printed account book was prepared in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Farm Management of the University of Manitoba and is organized into sections listed in an Index. The contents of the account book are left entirely blank.

A blank farm account book. This printed account book was recommended by the Departments of Agriculture of Alberta and Manitoba. The account book is organized into 8 sections and separated by tabbed paper dividers.

Includes 1 newspaper clipping regarding the final payments per bushel for the principal grades of oats and barley, dated "65/66" in blue ink, suggesting that the book was at some point intended to be used for the 1965-1966 crop year. This clipping is stapled to the back of the tabbed divider immediately before page 43.

The contents of the account book are otherwise left entirely blank.

A fact sheet titled "Be Sure You Get Value When Purchasing Fertilizer!" Contains an analysis and breakdown of pricing per ton and pound of granular and liquid fertilizers, and warns against "extravagant and unproven claims made by interested parties."

Information regarding the production of rapeseed. It is mentioned to be something of a precursor to the "Special Crops for Manitoba" publication also contained within this collection (PE003156). On the top of the first page is written " Mr. Dan McFadden, Box 238, Rivers, Man." and at the bottom of the last page is a note with an apology that the author is unable to confirm whether planting rapeseed is wise, that the "5 acre plan...can't go wrong," and that the document should answer any other questions. It is signed "Jen(?)"

A letter from C. T. G. Bailey, dated September 9, 1955. It contains information on using "summerfallow" to increase nitrogen in the soil, and three suggested crop rotation and fertilizer schedules with the recommendation to try them out "on a small area and follow it faithfully for a few years" to determine their effectiveness. Included is an unused "score card" for judging grain seed. On the verso is a simple, hand-drawn map or diagram.

A reprinted section of Vol. 31 of a periodical titled "Scientific Agriculture" providing information on cereal smuts. Consists primarily of the results of surveys and testing conducted on seed samples taken at random from farmers in Manitoba.

"Bulletin No. 3." Information on smut diseases specific to barley. Topics include historical background, life cycle, varieties, seed treatments, chemicals, and fungicide application machines. An errata is attached to the inside of the front cover with corrections to pages 4 and 26.

A response to an indicated previous letter "regarding barley diseases." Contains descriptions and information on control methods for diseases affecting crops in Manitoba, as well as some that occur "infrequently in Manitoba." A handwritten note at the end reads "Unfortunately we have no pamphlets on these diseases. S(?)."

"Publication No. 150 (Third Edition)." Informational pamphlet on poultry meat production, including topics such as summer care, lice, fattening and overfeeding, killing, dressing, and scalding.

A soybean seed catalogue from NorthStar Genetics. Contains information on four varieties, "Watson," "Sperling," "Newton," and "Jordan."

A pamphlet titled “War on Weeds” by H.E. Wood, Chairman of the Manitoba Weeds Commission. The pamphlet was reprinted by C-I-L Oval in April 1951. The pamphlet was distributed by the Canadian Industries Limited Agricultural Chemicals Division. The pamphlet provides information about weed control for field crops and lists several kinds of weeds and methods for control. The pamphlet also provides information about the effects of weeds on animals and humans.

A small collection of meeting minutes and reports from the Turkey Marketing Boards Regional Meeting on June 10, 1968. The representatives present at the meeting came from British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan. Donald J. McFadden was present as one of the representatives from Manitoba. The meeting was held in Regina, Saskatchewan. The meeting minutes list the date, and the names of people present for the meeting, and provide details about the topics discussed. Also included are a report from the Saskatchewan Turkey Producers’ Marketing Board written by F.W. Longstaff, a report from the British Columbia Turkey Marketing Board written by E. Pratt, and a report from the Manitoba Turkey Producers’ Marketing Board written by J.P. Tanchak. The Alberta report was delivered verbally and there is no written copy.

A letter from the Saskatchewan Turkey Producers Marketing Board in Regina, Saskatchewan, addressed to Secretaries and Directors of Boards from Manitoba West. The letter is dated October 24, 1968. The letter was written by Fred W. Longstaff, the Secretary-Manager of the Saskatchewan Turkey Producers Marketing Board. The contents of the letter outline a proposal put forth by the Saskatchewan boards to install a regional coordinator to optimize support and partnership between the two provinces. The Saskatchewan board stated they believed Ed. Pratt would be a successful candidate for the position and they requested an answer from the Manitoba marketing boards to discuss the matter further.

A pair of receipts from an unnamed restaurant, both marked at the top in handwritten red ink as "Meals for Maurice on road." There are no dates displayed, but they arrived in a box of records that were all dated from the year 1965.

Four bundles of invoices, stapled in the top left corner, two with two pages and two with three pages. They are primarily transactional records of the selling of poultry by Don McFadden to Brandon Dairy & Poultry Co-operative Ltd. Includes an account statement with a balance carried over from 1964.

A brochure advertising SeCan retailers for wheat and soybeans in Manitoba, Alberta, and Saskatchewan. SeCan is a seed supplier for farmers across Canada and is based in Ottawa, Ontario. The brochure provides information about various types of soybeans, their characteristics, and what the soybean plants look like at various stages of growth. The brochure also includes several bar graphs depicting soybean yield results by various planting methods in 2017. On the back of the brochure, there is the contact information for numerous SeCan retail locations across the Prairies, and a note indicating that SeCan is listed as a subsidiary of Monsanto Canada, Inc.

A 2018 AGCO Dealer catalogue. The catalogue advertises farm machinery sold by different companies such as Drummond’s Farm Services Ltd., H&L Motors Ltd., Little Morden Service, Notre Dame Motors Ltd., Shachtay Sales & Service Ltd., and Shoal Lake Farm Equipment Ltd. Each page lists the machinery sold by one of the listed companies such as tractors, harvesting equipment, haying machines, swathers, tillage and seeding machines, augers, and smaller machines for yard and garden maintenance, along with their prices. On the back of the catalogue there is contact information listed for each company included in the catalogue.

A publication titled “Citizenship: Our Democracy” and authorized by the Departments of Education for the provinces of Manitoba and Saskatchewan.  Stamped on the inside front cover appears to be “Property of King George School” but the ink is smeared and the stamp was not evenly applied.  The material within this publication is meant to be covered as part of the social studies curriculum for elementary school children.  “The course aims particularly to teach children loyalty to our King and to our country.”  Printed by Thos.
