• 11 x 15 cm B&W image printed on brown paper and bordered by thin strips of the same paper decorated to look like a proper frame. The photograph shows a team of fifteen (15) minor hockey players flanked by two adult men in overcoats and hats. Someone has written “Portage La Prairie, Feb. 26, 1951 Hockey Team” on the back in pencil. Back also shows crayon marks and a brown stain. There are a number of pierced holes in the top corners of the photograph.

This is the RCAF newsletter distributed at the No. 2 Manning Depot, Brandon, Manitoba. Contents include articles written by officers, assorted inspirational and social columns, squadron news, and advertisements for local businesses. Inside of cover (front and back) is signed by many pilots.

The opposite side lists the various services provided by the city: six (6) chartered banks, nine (9) churches, four (4) public schools, a collegiate institute, water works, sewage system, and electric light plant.

Horses and buggies are standing next to the workers, and there is a large farmhouse in the background. A large wheeled building behind them appears to be a portable dormitory. Scene was taken in Treherne, Manitoba.

The inner cover page is titled, "Brandon … Ladies’ Glee Club … 45 Voices. Mrs. Anna Watson-Bewell, Directress. Brandon Opera House, Friday evening, April 28th, 1905." Typed letters and leaflets from Theo. A. Burrows Lumber Co. in Bowsman, Manitoba sent to Mr. John Kennedy of Sifton, MB. Letters are written on Burrows Lumber stationery. Three (3) leaflets contain the wholesale price list for various dates, while the other is a hand-written receipt for merchandise purchased.

Testimonial Dinner in honour of the Rt. Hon. and Mrs. John G. Diefenbaker at the Marlborough Hotel, Winnipeg. Put on by The Dominion Executive with the Winnipeg Branch of the Ukrainian Canadian Committee. It includes the event schedule, dinner menu, and a biography of John Diefenbaker in English and Ukrainian. There is also a list of the members of the honorary committee and two photographs of John Diefenbaker.

A postcard captioned "Rothenburg - Burgtor" is mounted on the first page. The album contains dozens of B&W photographs captioned in German hand-writing by an unidentified person.

Breakfast menu card for the Royal George Hotel Café in Edmonton, AB. Bi-fold door design.  The cover is textured and black printed with silver.  Inside the text is printed in pink on a cream background.  There are five (5) Royal Breakfast Specials as well as Fish to Order, Steaks and Chops, and a variety of beverages, fruit, cereals, toast, hot cakes, rolls, and eggs. The back cover has line illustrations of The Royal George in Edmonton, The York in Calgary, and The Marquis in Lethbridge.  

Souvenir program of the first dinner served in the new Corona Hotel.  The program is bound with a yellow ribbon tied through two holes punched through the textured card stock cover and the single interior sheet of paper.  Printed by Douglas Printing Co., Ltd. in Edmonton, AB.  The dinner menu for the evening included dishes such as pigeon printaniere style, saute of frog legs a la Marengo, and milk-fed chicken with bread sauce.  A list of hotel rates is also included.

Receipt, Union dues, for the United Farmers of Alberta (U.F.A.) Union. Receipt is from local Union No. 901, made out to E.H. King of Cochrane, Alberta, for 1923 dues, and signed by W.R. King.

Convention in Calgary. There is also a b&w portrait of S.S. Dunham on the second page.

A small publishing mark on the back cover noted: Allied Printing Edmonton-Trades Council-Union Label. 

Menu card for The Skyline restaurant located at Macleod Trail, No. 2 Highway in Calgary, AB.  “Canada’s Finest Curb Service Restaurant and Golf Range.”  The cover is printed to look like cream leather and features an illustration of the restaurant on the front.  The back cover has a list of Fountain Specialties made with Palm Quality Products.  The front cover is cut away along the top right edge to show the name of the restaurant underneath. A small, softcover diary (‘1935 DIARY’ on cover), which features brief daily entries about the activities of a Mr. Maxworthy, resident of Lethbridge [?] Alberta. Includes descriptions of trips around southern Alberta, meetings with family and friends, etc.

Covering the 1934-1935 school year, the document lists attendance, conduct, academic progress and standing. Noted in remarks is an extended absence due to whooping cough. Lethbridge, Alberta.

Photo album containing prints and watercolours of the Lethbridge P.O.W. camp. Album shows the career of a German soldier from recruitment to P.O.W. camp in Alberta:

• First twenty-five (25) pages show soldier from early training through to career in Rumania, Bulgaria, Italy, and North Africa;
• Remaining eleven (11) pages of album shows soldier as P.O.W. in Lethbridge, Alberta and includes three (3) watercolours. Prints include group portraits, camp drama society, orchestra, and shots of the Wall and Huber families.

Flyer titled “Fifty Years of Progress: 1889 – 1939,” telling the story of the creation of the Lethbridge, Alberta, Board of Trade and the board’s role in the development of the local airport, Kenyon Field. The back of the flyer is titled “Autographs” and features the signatures of pilots who flew in the air show celebrating the opening of Kenyon Field: Charles E. Program contains a biography of Clifford Higgin, advertisements, and the program for the night.

Typed letter from E. M. MacKay, Christian Stewardship Secretary of the Ladies Missionary Society, Portage la Prairie Presbyterial, to Mrs. M. L. Trimble. The letter asks that Mrs. Trimble increase her giving this year so that the organization can meet its new allocation. Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.

Typed, two page letter on Canadian Pacific letterhead from Omer Lavallée, Corporate Archivist for Canadian Pacific to Reverend G. C. Salamon of the Sacred Heart Rectory in Lebret, SK requesting information about the locations depicted in three photographs recently published by his archive. A handwritten post script describes the location of “Photo no 108.” Montreal, QC.

The three photos in question were sent with the letter. Find them under PE000575 (F-3-1-0-7), PE000576 (F-3-1-0-8) & PE000577 (F-3-1-0-9). Apr. 5, 1978, Montreal, QC.

"Songs that Live" contains the lyrics to Christian songs. The cover features the title “Calgary…Crusade for Christ: “Songs that live” and includes three (3) close-up photographs of the event’s evangelist, organist, and song evangelist.

Letters signed by R.P. Jean Seguin, Missionary at Fort Good Hope Mission in Notre Dame De Bonne Esperance, AB, to his abbe at the Semaine Religieuse, Clermont, France. All three letters are in very delicate and fragile condition; they are generally still legible despite the ink and paper having faded. Letters are dated as follows :

• 1. Letter dated February 11th, 1890 contains 2 pages.
• 2. Letter dated June 8th, 1892 contains 3 pages.
• 3. Letter dated February 11th, 1893 contains 2 pages.
     Enclosed are also two (2) issues of Le Semaine Religieuse de Clermont:
• 1. One issue is dated Saturday September 28, 1889; it includes pages 906-928. Page 912 contains a printing of the first part of a letter from Seguin. This issue is in very delicate and deteriorated condition. While it is still generally legible, it has a number of stains and the ink has faded significantly. There is much tear/wear damage along the edges, particularly the corners.
• 2. The other issue is dated October 5th, 1889. It includes pages 1930-1951. The concluding part of the letter is printed on pages 940-952.
     Additionally, there is a single detached page of an unclear publication likely dated 1888. It has the play "En route pour la mer glaciale" prominently circled. This is also in very delicate condition and has three parallel folding marks.

All contained in a 26 x 17cm cardboard folder wrapped in bright orange paper. It has a sticker that appears to have been cut in half that reads the name ‘Mackensie.’ The folder is in poor condition: it has a prominent rip on the lower left corner and shows strong signs of usage throughout.

Historical pamphlet titled “Ukrainian Greek-Orthodox Church: St. George’s Congregation Dauphin, Manitoba.” The yellow, printed pamphlet, made for tourists, traces the history of the Ukrainian Greek-Orthodox Church in the Ukraine and its growth in Canada. It also provides a detailed history of the development of the congregation of St. George’s and the building of the church. The pamphlet is produced “Compliments of W. J. Perepeluk and Family,” likely members of St. George's Congregation.

Prayer of Thanksgiving printed on a small card with the heading “City of Regina—Diamond Jubilee: June, 1963.”

Twenty five tracts printed in Edmonton, Alberta by the Evangelical Tract Distributors; none are dated. The collection includes:

• “Why All the Vultures?” by Joel Darby. Cover image of a vulture is in black and red. Discusses the relationship between the increased number of eggs laid by Israeli vultures and an imminent attack on Israel by the Kremlin and Chinese Army. Predicts the Rapture and Armageddon.
• “A Lasting Peace” by Rev. J.C. Ryle. Argues that the only peace that lasts comes through faith in God and Jesus Christ.
• “Condemned, Awaiting Execution.” Tells the story of a prince travelling through France who releases a prisoner from jail after he confesses his guilt. Encourages the reader to confess to sin in order to be saved.
• “But When?” by Rev. J.C. Ryle. Encourages readers to forget their excuses and begin to seek God at once.
• “A Mission for Every Believer.” Explains that distributing tracts is a service that any Christian can perform. Describes the usefulness and effects of distributing tracts. Back page stamped with “Only a Branch Gospel Tract Boxes John 15:5—Mark 16:13 Write for Paper Evangelist Margaret J. Sinclair 401 Atlantic Avenue, Winnipeg Man.
• “Make It Plain, Father.” Tells the story of a young soldier after the Battle of Gettysburg who converts to Christianity on his death bed on the advice of his father. On the back page is a poem titled “Forgiven.”
• “Cripple Tom.” Tells the story of a poor boy with one leg who converts his father to Christianity by preaching the story of the resurrection. The father asks for help in overcoming his addiction to alcohol.,
• Two copies of “‘It’s All in the Blood’ ‘……And without shedding of blood is no remission’ (Heb. 9:22).” Tells the story of a prominent business man and church goer who is sick and visited by a friend. Argues that the only entrance to heaven is through believing in the blood of Jesus Christ.
• “Delivered by the Power of God!” Tells the story of Old Tim, whose addiction to alcohol ruined his family and his life. Drawn to a church service by the congregation’s singing, Tim discovers the forgiveness of God and his long-lost son, who is the preacher at the church.
• “‘It’s All in the Blood’ ‘……And without shedding of blood is no remission’ (Heb. 9:22).” Tells same story as above. Last page is titled “Just One Thing Wanting.” This page explains that all “good virtues in a man are just a row of cyphers” if that man has not accepted Jesus Christ.
• “His Niagara Falls” by S. E. Burrow. This tract describes a vulture that eats a drowned buffalo so greedily that it does not notice its claws getting stuck in the carcass and then it is pulled by the current over Niagara Falls to its death (depicted on the cover). It compares this to a travelling salesman succumbing to drink and gambling and then dying poor and without Christ.
• “Where Hell Is.” Tells a brief story of a tract distributor and quotes Heb. 2:1-4.
• “The Timber Merchant’s Dilemma.” This tract uses a parable of a strong horse to explain that salvation comes from faith alone, not from good works.
• “Who Is Jesus?” by D. Glenn Chambers. In this tract, an evangelist explains to a delivery boy why he should not take the Lord's name in vain.
• “Too Busy!” This tract is divided into three sections. The first is a B&W cartoon showing a business man who neglects his soul’s salvation. The second, titled “Rich or Poor?,” contrasts material and spiritual wealth. The third, “I am not Going to a Christless Grave – Are You?,” tells the story of an evangelist whose tract distribution saved a young conductor from going to a Christless grave.
• “Why Not…Believe God Too?”Compares different kinds of warnings on Earth to God’s warnings against sinning.
• “Only 2 Classes!” Exhorts readers to decide which class, path and death is theirs – that of saved sinners or lost sinners.
• “A Christmas in Prison.” The story is told to the first-person speaker, “Kain” by the Governor of a prison in Michigan City. He explains how a small girl was reunited with her father, in prison for murder, on Christmas. The girl and her father become Christians and the father’s reformation gains him a pardon.
• “Beautiful Snow.” Tells the story of a fallen woman who died young in “the early part of the American war.” With her personal effects is the poem “Beautiful Snow” which is found and appreciated by American poet Thomas Buchanan Read. The poem is seven stanzas made of rhyming couplets which tell of the woman’s fall and salvation through Christ. It is followed by another poem titled “That Name,” which is about Jesus.
• “Do You Need An Alarm Clock?” Explains that though people may be resentful of being awakened, many people are in spiritual slumber and require the alarm clock of the evangelist. Signed “C. D. Carter.”
• “Did You?” Through a series of questions argues that atheism has never saved anyone from the power of sin. Is specifically critical of the work of Thomas Paine and Robert Ingersoll.
• “Are You Ready?” Discusses the importance of being ready for death and God’s readiness to save. Signed “F.W.”
• “Fire if You Dare!” Compares the story of a British subject draped in the Union Jack to save him from a South American firing squad to the protection of Jesus.
• “He Had No Song or Trying to get to heaven without a Saviour.” Tells the story of a preacher who explains to a dying man that it is not good works but belief in Jesus’ good works that will get him into heaven.
• "Ready Now.” Tells the story of a poor orphan in Liverpool whose poverty and piety unintentionally charm a steamer Captain into employing him on his ship. The boy falls ill and, on his deathbed, converts the Captain to Christianity.

The cover is blue with two painted photos, one of a herd of cattle and another of a team of three horses, pulling a combine, harvesting wheat. The writing on the back states: "The World’s Highway Across Canada-Excellent Service-Low Colonist Rates-Any agent will gladly furnish particulars."  The book contains information regarding Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba, including the type of crops which grow there, cities and towns in each province, and laws. It also provides instructions on how to begin settling in these areas, township diagrams, railway land regulations, and importation of animals. Contains photographs and maps.

Book titled: 1905-1955 After Fifty Years Mendham. Book contains 16 pages detailing the beginnings of Mendham and its progression over 50 years. Contains stories, (including one in German), poems, b&w photographs of life in the village, and advertisements of supporters of the book. Cover is a dark yellow, and contains a small b&w photograph of the village on the front. Inside the front cover is a forward from the Mendham Teachers and Pupils. The inside back cover notes it’s for autographs, though this particular book’s autograph page is blank. Book has been dedicated to the brave pioneers of the prairies.

Notepad published by Regal Coal of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Front and back covers of the notepad advertise for a contest to name a new type of coal from Drumheller, Alberta and explain the contest rules. All but one page of the notepad are blank. The cover is decorated by pencil doodles and is precariously bound to the rest of the notepad.

Two small, bound notebooks with graph paper advertising for Holland Extra Prime Binder Twine sold by Harold & Thompson, Regina, Saskatchewan. Both notebooks include four pages of facts and testimonials about Holland Twine. The second book includes hand-written notes on hours worked and tools purchased.

Train schedule for the Soo-Spokane Route run by the Spokane International Railway. Centrefold is a map of the route which runs from Portland, Oregon up through Calgary, Alberta and Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan and down to St. Paul, Minnesota. Includes time schedules of the international route and of connecting train lines, as well as a description of the trains and equipment in use.

Drumheller District Tourist Guide put together by the Drumheller Junior Chamber of Commerce. It is divided in six sections and the back side of the document opens into a 45.5 x 29.5 cm map of the area, which marks the regions with their thriving industries. There is also a close-up map of the city of Drumheller. The triptych includes a directory for Drumheller, statistical information, tourist attractions, and historical facts.

Alberta’s Scenic Circle - Driving Maps and Information provided by the Alberta Motor Association. Pamphlet featuring information on the province of Alberta in terms of the tourism industry. It contains maps and driving directions to navigate along the famous tourist landmarks within Alberta. It is printed in maroon and green.

Promotional letter for the song “Hey, That’s Alberta!” Promotional letter apparently enclosed with a record of an Alberta anthem, titled “Hey, That’s Alberta”. The letter encourages listeners to distribute and play the song and lists the performers on the record and the Committee for the Provincial Song.

Sign advertising a cash auction sale to be held at Collins’ Livery Barn in Gronlid, Saskatchewan. Items for sale include livestock, farming equipment and rifles. Owner is listed as E. G. Bickerton and the Auctioneer as D. McDonald. A six (6) year old Bay Gelding is crossed off the list.
