The cache, consisting of scientific specimens, equipment, and provisions, was being left behind to be picked up the following winter by a party of Inuits and taken to the Hudson's Bay Company Fort at Cape Dorset. The Union Jack flag was left flying to assist the Inuits in finding the cache the following winter.

Dewey Soper was contracted in 1928 by the Department of the Interior to study the biology and natural history of Baffin Island. He returned to Lake Harbour at the end of the summer in 1929, to begin his journey back to southern Canada.
