Biographical history
In 1974, Diane Iona Persson completed her Masters of Arts at the University of Victoria and published her dissertation titled “Mask, myth and ritual : an analysis of interrelationships on the northwest coast” in 1975.
Persson graduated from the University of Alberta in 1980 as a Doctor of Philosophy in Anthropology and Education. She published her doctoral thesis on August 13, 1980, under the supervision of Tony Fisher [Fischer?]. In her thesis, titled “Blue Quills: a case study of Indian residential schooling,” she focuses on the developments of the Blue Quills Residential School from 1931-1971 as experienced by the Indigenous community, the Federal Government, and the Roman Catholic Church.
Diane Persson was born to Emil Persson and Eunice Dika. She married Daniel Johnson and had two children named Nils and Britta.

Oral tape interviews and printed transcripts of interviews conducted by Diane Persson with individuals connected with the Blue Quills Indian Residential School. The interviews were conducted as part of her research for her Ph.D. thesis entitled: "Blue Quills: A Case Study of Indian Residential Schooling".
