The Department of Slavic and East European Studies (SEES) was formed in 1982 by the amalgamation of the Department of Slavic Languages and the Division of East European Studies. The Department's objective is to maintain the viability of programs leading (from the BA through the MA) to the PhD in Russian Literature, Ukrainian Literature, Ukrainian Folklore, and Slavic Linguistics, and to the MA in East European and Soviet Studies (PACCR, 1987).
