A letter that was issued to [Charles] Hay in Claresholm, Alberta from James Wilson at the Office of the Recorder of Brands for the Province of Alberta. The letter was sent in January 1915. The letter explains that by the new Brand Act for the Province, the recipient’s brand will be cancelled on December 31, 1915. The recipient can secure the brand again for a period of four years following an application process and a fee of $2.00. In the letter, the brand of [Charles] Hay is listed as "IC," was used on horses, and was allotted May 23, 1905.
The Brand Act dictates that due to a large number of brands being issued since 1907, instead of purchasing new brands, all old brands would be cancelled so that ones no longer being used can be repurchased for use, and all brands still in use must apply to continue their usage.
