Bruce P. Dancik earned his BSc (Forestry), M.F. and Ph.D. (Forest Genetics and Ecology) from the University of Michigan between 1962 and 1972. He has been at the University of Alberta since 1973, and is currently Professor Emeritus in the Department of Renewable Resources.
He was the Executive Editor-in-Chief with the National Research Council of Canada (NRC Research Press) and Canadian Science Publishing from 1990 to 2016 and was the director of the Devonian Botanic Gardens from 2001 to 2011
Dr. Dancik is a passionate supporter of several conservation organizations and has received the following awards: Canadian Forestry Achievement Award from the Canadian Institute of Forestry (1979), Distinguished Alumnus Award from the University of Michigan (1989), Tree of Life Award from the Canadian Institute of Forestry (1993), Scientific Achievement Award from the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (2000), Meritorious Achievement Award from the Council of Science Editors (2002), Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal (2003), and Lloyd Shea Memorial Award from the Alberta Fly Fishers (2005). He became a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada in 2016.
