              A book containing copies of outgoing letters from the Southern Alberta Turf Club, an organization that oversaw horse-racing and betting in the Fort Macleod area. The letters mostly deal with business and social matters, and are primarily from club secretary H. M. Cottingham addressed to Sam Steele, Colonel James Macleod, and Sir F. W. Haultain, among others.

              A souvenir book commemorating the 27th Annual Convention of Trades and Labour Congress in Canada. The convention was held in Calgary, Alberta, in September 1911. The book includes various portraits and short biographies of members of the council. The book also includes group photographs of various labourer groups and short reports about each group, as well as various advertisements for local businesses. The book was published by the Calgary Trades and Labour Council and printed by the Typographical Union Label company in Calgary, Alberta.

              A bound collection of handbooks from the Canadian Pacific Railway company, each titled the “Canadian Pacific Handbook of Information Regarding Business and Industrial Opportunities in Western Canada.” The handbooks were published monthly. The handbooks were published by the Department of Natural Resources located in Calgary, Alberta. This collection of handbooks, published monthly starting in July 1912, lists the positions needed in dozens of towns in Western Canada which are organized alphabetically. The collection includes handbooks published from July 1912 to April 1913.

              A booklet with in-depth information regarding farming and homesteading opportunities in Western Canada, "the Granary of the British Empire," published by the Canadian Pacific Railway Department of Natural Resources. It covers Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia and contains photographs of geographical features and agricultural functions. A large fold-out map is tipped-in after the last page and shows "system of land survey and lines of the Canadian Pacific Railway Company."

              A hotel register of guest names from August 1922 to November 1924. The register pages are divided into five columns to mark down the date, the name of the guest, their town of residence, their room number at the hotel, and their time of arrival, although it is primarily only the name, residence, and room columns that are used in this ledger. The name of the hotel is not mentioned in the register, although the majority of the guests resided in towns in Alberta, primarily Edmonton, so presumably the hotel was also in Alberta. On the inside of the back cover, there are several handwritten notes regarding price charges to specific guests.

              The “44th Annual List of Popular Books and Other Goods from Russell-Lang’s, Western Canada’s oldest and best bookshop.” The bookshop was located in Winnipeg, Manitoba and the booklet is for the 1924-1925 season. The bookstore, officially named Russell-Lang & Co, Ltd., is listed as opening in 1880. The booklet is divided into sections based primarily on genre, although some sections are based on age or book series. Several books are listed in each category along with the author’s name, the price, and a general comment about the book. Near the back of the booklet are four order forms that recipients of the booklet can tear out and send to the bookstore.

              Two year books from "S.N.S." (Saskatoon Normal School) for the school years of 1925-1926 and 1946-1947. They both include composite photographs of graduating students, writing samples and poetry, yearbook staff lists, athletics reports, editorials, and messages from the principal. The 1925-1926 copy has the inscription "Margaret M. Rennie, Room A. S.N.S." on the first page, many handwritten signitures under "Autographs" on pages 56-57, and the signature of orchestra conductor Mrs. Helen Davies Sherry on page 115. The 1946-1947 copy has two newspaper clippings attached to the inside of the front cover reporting on the death of Dr. Frederick James Gathercole, one being from the Leader-Post of Regina, Saskatchewan and dated Tuesday, December 28, 1993. Another clipping on the funeral service for Mrs. E. J. Ouellette is taped to page 34, and an obituary for Michael Joseph Schafer is taped to page 65 underneath his portrait, dated 1947. A retirement notice for Roy Lockert, also clipped from the Leader-Post and dated Friday, July 4, 1980, is attached to page 101. Pages 102-104 contain various other materials taped in including graduation programs, a red heart-shaped autograph book with signatures, and a typed memo on the decision of the Saskatoon Normal School Student's Assembly during their executive meeting on Tuesday, June 17, 1947 to "allot a sum of $50 to the next assembly for the buying of a radio." It also includes advertisements for local businesses.

              Year books from the nurses school at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba, one for the 1926-1927 school year and two copies for 1927-1928. They include lists of names and photographs of graduating students, history, photographs, and general information on the hospital, inspirational poems, jokes, and speeches, and advertisements for local businesses.

              A collection of loose photographs of various aircraft, and pilot Archie Vance. Includes a typed page with details on the different varieties of planes, and a book on the life of Ted Nagle, a pilot, explorer, and geological surveyor, titled "The Prospector North of Sixty," by Ted Nagle & Jordan Zinovich, published in 1989.

              A children's illustrated rhyming book about the evolution of transportation in Canada, provided by the Canadian Pacific Railway to young passengers. There is a blue card attached to the last page that reads "A Secret - This little book has been printed especially for the many Children who travel on the Canadian Pacific. It is all for them except the next two pages which are for Mother, Father or Grown-ups only - Tear off at perforation and the secret is out." The perforation has not been opened, but is known to contain information on dining accommodations available to passengers travelling with children. The inside of the back cover contains photographs of Canadian Pacific Hotels and a list of hostelries.

              A yearbook for the year 1940 titled “The Light” for the Provincial Normal School in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. At the beginning of the yearbook, there is a message from the Honourable J.W. Estey, the Minister of Education of Saskatchewan and the principal of the school, Mr. C.P. Seeley. The portrait photographs of the graduates are placed vertically on each page and for each graduate there is a short corresponding poem about their school experiences or character. There are various handwritten annotations next to many of the portraits such as married names or if they are now deceased. There are also yearbook pages devoted to different clubs and their members. The final pages of the yearbook contain numerous handwritten signatures. The yearbook includes numerous advertisements for local businesses.

              A yearbook for the Alberta Normal School in Edmonton for 1941-1942. Contents include a history of normal schools in Alberta, a dedication (opposite a colourized mounted photograph of a mountain scene with a bridge over a river), a message from the principal, poems and writing samples from students, photographs of students, staff, and scenes from campus, inspirational messages, and write-ups on sports teams and other activities and clubs. The last 25 pages are advertisements for local businesses, complete with its own directory. "Berthold Figur" written on the front loose endpaper.

              Illustrated record of the construction of the Alaska or "Alcan" Highway during World War II, published shortly after the road's completion for military use in 1942. Describes the development, construction, and eventual opening of the highway connecting Fairbanks, Alaska, to Dawson Creek, British Columbia.

              Includes 1 map of "The Province of Alberta in relation to the Alaska Highway and the natural resources of Northwestern Canada", and approximately 40 black and white [B&W] and sepia-toned photographs depicting the construction of the highway, the individuals working on the construction project, landscapes and scenery around the highway, and the official opening of the highway.

              Also includes "Tales about the Road" [short, mostly humourous vignettes about the development of the Alaska Highway] and "Edmonton - Crossroads of the World" [short prose piece about Edmonton, written in the point of view of "the spirit of Edmonton" and attributed to R. T. R.].

              A short biography of the northern apostle, Bishop V. Grandin, Oblate of Mary Immaculate. Bishop Grandin was the first bishop of St. Albert, Alberta who died on June 3, 1902. The booklet was printed by “La Survivance” Printing Ltd. in Edmonton, Alberta in 1945. The booklet outlines the bishop’s life from his birth, to his extensive career, to his death. The booklet also includes several B&W printed photographs of significant locations and buildings in the bishop’s life. Inside the booklet is a small one-page program for Mary’s Day, 1955.

              A medical guide from 1953 intended for post managers of the Hudson’s Bay Company living at posts in remote areas where medical aid was not readily available. The guidebook lists numerous medical ailments in alphabetical order and provides brief instructions for patient care until further medical treatment can be obtained if necessary. The guidebook also includes several medical supplies order forms and several pieces of copy paper. Examples of ailments listed include choking, frostbite, jaundice, measles, and toothache with instructions provided for each.

              A reprinting, with pictures, of a journal kept by a member of a group of six "city folk" who took a canoe trip in Northern Saskatchewan from July 23 to August 13 [1955]. Author Denis Coolican was the President of the Canadian Bank Note Company. Their route is marked out on a large map that is attached to and unfolds from inside of the back cover.

              A copy of an account of the married life of Mr. and Mrs. Unger from Kleefeld, Manitoba, written in German, to be presented to guests as a party favour on the occasion of their 25th wedding anniversary. They were married on January 25, 1932 and lived in various locations in Manitoba in houses they built themselves, raised chickens, and adopted three children. Includes captioned photographs, bible quotes, and a poem titled "Glückwunsch zur Silberhochzeit (Congratulations on your Silver Wedding Anniversary)" by Von Jacob J, Bartels.

              The original manuscript for Prairie Manna: A Brief History of the United Church of Canada in Southern Saskatchewan during the Thirties by [R.] A. Collins. The manuscript was finished in March 1962, and at the time the author was part of the Bowness United Church in Calgary, Alberta. The purpose of the essay is to document and highlight the contributions made by the United Church of Canada to various communities in southern Saskatchewan. The author gathered information from numerous different sources about the United Church of Canada and also provided information on southern Saskatchewan's historical and economic background.

              A limited edition book celebrating the 10th anniversary and 10 seasons of the Winnipeg Jets hockey team. The book was written by Ken Fenson, a former Jets vice-president, and published in [1982] by the Winnipeg Jets Hockey Club. Each chapter of the book discusses one season of the Jets, thus illustrating the history of the time. The book is full of photographs of the changing members of the team and different hockey games throughout the years. The last page of the book includes several photocopy signatures of the Jets players in the 10th season.

              A book of memoirs titled Mice, Mirth and Misery: The Memoirs of a Rural Schoolteacher in Manitoba during the “Dirty Thirties”1930-1938 by Myrtle Pearson Campbell. The book was independently published by Myrtle’s daughter, Bonnie, in 1986. According to Bonnie’s note at the beginning of the book, Myrtle started working on her memoirs in 1980 and the first draft was substantially completed by mid-1983. The memoir recounts her experiences with teaching in one-room rural schools during the Depression years.

              The genealogical research of Linda Nykolaychuk (née Measner) from Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, on the history of the Engelhardt family (her mother's side) back to 1824. Additional correspondence is included providing corrections and updates, presumably submitted by family members. There are also two copies of a photograph of a group of men standing in front of a steam engine, one in colour and one in very low resolution b&w.

              An autographed copy of The Lands, Brands & Hands of the 76 Ranch by Dave Spencer, published in 2008. The foreword reads "The purpose of this writing is to sort out the locations, ownerships and operation of the ranches associated with the 76 brand." Includes a historical timeline, illustrations of brand symbols and their placement on livestock, a list of employees of the 76 ranch from 1886-1924, and a brief biography of the author.

              A book titled “The Truth About Canada with Some Exciting Experiences in Alberta” written by Morris W. Thomas from Clynderwen, England. The book chronologically details Morris W. Thomas’ voyage in 1905 from the United Kingdom to Canada, specifically Alberta and his experiences residing there for some time. The author discusses subjects such as farming in Alberta, winter activities, different seasons, harvesting, and the advantages and disadvantages of living in the prairies. There is a label on the inside of the book marking it as part of the Pembrokeshire Education Committee County Library.

              Thomas, Morris W.

              Book: A published work containing the accounts of settlers who immigrated to the East Mennonite Reserve in Manitoba and were present at the 60th anniversary celebration of Mennonite immigration in Steinbach, Manitoba on August 1, 1934. The foreword reads "The desire to record these communications from the pioneer settlers for the descendants of the immigrants and possibly for later Mennonite historical research prompted the publication of this issue" (translated). Contains seven plates bearing captioned photographs, one illustration captioned "A pioneer dwelling from the first winter" (translated), and handwritten notes (in German) on some pages.
              Programs: Two identical copies of a program for the celebration of the 60th anniversary of Mennonite immigration, held in Steinbach, Manitoba on August 1, 1934. Includes a schedule for songs and speeches, and lyrics to hymns.
              Newspaper clippings: Five cut-out captioned images from newspapers. One is a photograph of a sternwheeler boat with a smaller long boat beside it in the water, both full of people, caption reads "Arrival of the first Mennonite immigrants in Winnipeg on July 31, 1874" (translated). Two are photograph portraits, one is "Cornelius Toews, deputy of the small community" (translated), and the other is Cornelius Taft (?). One is an illustrated portrait of Gen. Gov. Lord Dufferin, who "visited the Mennonites on August 21, 1877" (translated). The final photograph is the only item in the collection in English and shows a group of horse-drawn carriages (no horses) lined up for a funeral service for Samuel Stoltzfus, "farmer and bishop of the House Amish." The newspaper is called Free Press Weekly Prairie Farmer and is dated April 27, 1949.
