Cahill, P. Joseph

Rev. P. Joseph Cahill was a well-known Catholic theologian. He earned a LittB degree from Xavier University, an LTH diploma from West Baden College, an MA degree from Loyola University, and an STD (Sacred Doctor of Theology) degree from the Pontifical Gregorian University. He was associated with the Bellarmine School of Theology. In 1970, Cahill joined the University of Alberta as a philosophy professor before moving to the Department of Religious Studies. He was the Chair of the Department of Religious Studies in 1970-1974 and 1984-1988. Cahill published several articles and books about theology, including Mended Speech: The Crisis of Religious Studies. He was also an editor of the journal Religious Studies and Theology.

Caldarola, Carlo

Carlo Caldarola studied Catholic theology and philosophy in Italy before earning a Bachelor of Science degree from Sophia University, an MA from Tokyo Metropolitan University, and a PhD from the University of California at Berkeley. He joined the Department of Sociology at the University of Alberta in 1969, becoming a Professor of Sociology in 1978. Caldarola wrote books about Christianity in Japan and was also known as a linguist. He passed away unexpectedly in Rome in 1981 while attending a conference. The Dr. Carlo Caldarola Scholarship was created in his memory.
