Gamila Morcos est une universitaire canadienne qui était doyenne et professeure à la Faculté Saint-Jean de l'université de l'Alberta et à la Laurentian University à Sudbury, Ontario. Morcos était la première femme à occupé un rôle administratif senior à Laurentian University. Elle a étudié la literature à Cairo en Egypte avant qu'elle reçoit une bourse du gouvernement de la France pour étudier à Sorbonne, Paris où elle a reçu un doctorat en literature française. Morcos a ensuite à la Ain Shams University avant de partir pour le Canada en 1968. Morcos est surtout reconnue pour avoir conçu et écrit le premier dictionnaire d'auteurs et d'artistes francophones dans le ouest canadien avec Gilles Cadrin et Paul Dubé. Durant son temps au Campus Saint-Jean, elle a fondé l'Acfas-Alberta, une section régionale de l'Association francophone pour le savoir.

Gamila Morcos is a Canadian academic who was a dean and professor the Faculté Saint-Jean at the University of Alberta and at Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario. Morcos was also the first woman to be appointment to a senior administrative position at Laurentian University. She studied literature in Cairo Egypt before receiving a grant from the French government to study in Sorbonne, Paris where she received a doctorate in French literature. Morcos then taught at the Ain Shams University before going to Canada in 1968.
Morcos is most recognised for designing and writing the first Dictionary of Francophone authors and artists in Western Canada along with Gilles Cadrin and Paul Dubé.
During her time at Campus Saint-Jean she founded the Acfas-Alberta, a regional section of the Association francophone pour le savoir.

Custodial history

Ce fonds fut acquis par les Archives de l'Université de l'Alberta (UAA) de la part des Archives Saint-Jean, anciennement situé au Campus Saint-Jean de l'Université de l'Alberta. Le but principal des Archives Saint-Jean était de préserver le matériel archivistique qui avait déjà été acquis au fil des ans par l'ancien IRFOC (Institut de recherche francophone de l’ouest canadien) et ensuite par l’ancien IPFOC (Institut pour le patrimoine de la francophonie de l’ouest canadien).

This fonds was acquired by the University of Alberta Archives in 2019 from the Archives Saint-Jean that was previously housed at the University of Alberta’s Campus Saint-Jean. The Archives Saint-Jean’s main goal was to preserve archival materials that had already been acquired by the IRFOC (Institut de recherche francophone de l’ouest canadien) and subsequently by IPFOC (Institut pour le patrimoine de la francophonie de l’ouest canadien).

Scope and content

Fonds contient des documents biographiques au sujet d'artistes et d'auteurs qui ont été traités dans le Dictionnaire des artistes et des auteurs francophones de l'Ouest canadien. Certains n'ont pas été inclus dans le Dictionnaire. Ils sont organisé en ordre alphabétique par nom de famille. Il ya plusieurs dossier de documents divers qui incluent des artistes et auteurs, des coordonnées, de la correspondence, des inventaires, des manuscripts, et des chapitres de cahier. Plusieurs de ceux-ci sont relié à Georges Bugnet et sa collection.

Fonds consists of biographical documents related to artists and authors that were included in the Dictionnaire des artists et des auteurs francophones de l'Ouest canadien. Certain ones were not included in the Dictionnaire. They are organized in alphabetical order by family name. There are several folders of diverse documents that include artists and authors, coordinates, correspondance, inventories, manuscripts, and notebook chapters. Several of these are related to Georges Bugnet and his collection.
